Yeah, they could have came out with it a little sooner, so I would have gotten one. :P Oh well, the Ampeg isn't a slouch, either.

From what I can see, they both seem to be very similar. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. And now with Ampeg under Yamaha's wing, that'a a plus for the PF 800 right there.

That's true. They are usually a decent company that tends to make good stuff. By the way, have you ever played on any Yamaha bass gear? I might have played on some of their basses, but I can't recall. However, I did have a 335 semi-hollow body copy guitar from them, and I have borrowed one of their bass amps that they probably made in the 80's, from a friend of mine when my Ampeg SVT-3 Pro was down that I had back in the mid to late 90's. It was some sort of 180 or 200 watt combo, with a 15" speaker, that sort of resembled a Roland amp from about the same time period. It was actually a really decent amp that held it's own. I think he even still has it, as far as I know.

I don't recall ever playing any of the Yamaha gear. Just never did.

Their BB series basses are supposed to be pretty good. I suppose that's their version of a P Bass, or maybe a Jazz, since it does have both types of pickups in them, and various electronics, active or passive. Depends on the model and year, I suppose. Originally, they made the copy basses of Fenders, like Ibanez, and other Japanese companies did back in the 70's, before all of the lawsuits.

It's not like when Fender acquires a company, uses it's designs, and then shuts it down. But in all fairness the way I always saw it, a Precision, and a Jazz is FENDER.

Yeah, that’s where it started. I’m curious to see how the Yamaha/Ampeg relationship is going to work out, speaking of them again.

I thinking it should work out fine. Ampeg is a more solid based name than Sunn was. I don't know how Yamaha is as a corporation, but they seem to be pretty solvent.

Well, they certainly make everything under the sun, and then some.

That's for sure. This may be the best company to acquire Ampeg, ever.

I certainly hope so. It seemed like a lot of people had issues with the last owners. As long as my amp works like it's supposed to, I'm cool. At least now, there is the Fender option.

The only issue I could see you possibly have with the Ampeg PF Series, the tone may not achieve the level attained to your liking. I had the PF 500 that never had the tone I was wanting. That's something that I always know what I'm getting to my liking with a Fender amp, the tone I preferred. Your tone, and mine can of course be way different.

Well, so far it's the best sounding amp I've used, besides the Fender Rumble. It certainly runs circles around the Orange, at least for my purposes. The true test will be when it gets to be gigged, and full rehearsals. I have a feeling it should do fine.

Yeah, that's something I've been seriously looking forward to doing, and if for some reason I do have some issue, there are alternatives. I think even besides that, if there is a way to get a Rumble 800, besides the Ampeg (not even having to sell it,) then I might. I did want one for so many years, because I do like the combo, and like I said before, who says you can only have one kind of amp?

It wouldn't bother me to have an another amp. Like maybe a Rumble 500 head to back up the Super Bassman. I can't use a Rumble 800 with the SVT cab. 4 Ohms would put me at 800 watts, and the SVT is rated at 600 watts.
