That sounds like a plan when it's available.

That's how it usually seems to work out. I'm actually hoping I won't need to. The less crap I have to haul around, the better.

Hey Paul, you know now between the two of us here, (and we are about the only two here), you're the Fender user in these here parts, anyway. I'm officially all Ampeg now. Image

Yeah, I have a feeling it's going to be a while, if at all, if I'm going to do that. I'd have to justify getting rid of the Fender cab, other than strictly cosmetic reasons, which really isn't much of a justification, with it ain't broke, and all of that, and the whole process of selling it, and the price I could get, and then would that even be enough to get an Ampeg cab. So, the only thing I could do is an additional cab, which would mean I'd be going on some huge stages, or whatever, and making the money to get one. Hey, you never know.

You got the Ampeg cab first, which is easier to do in my situation, at least. It's a little easier to replace a head with another one, I think. Although, I did manage to get rid of those Carvin cabs, which was amazing, but that was also after I got the Fender cab.

Agreed, no need to drop a fine 410 cab just for looks. I also agree that it is easier to get the cab, and then work in the head. I also agree heads to move better cabs.

I could be wrong, but doesn't it seem that cabs are often an afterthought, especially compared to heads? It just seems like the majority of attention is paid to the amp more than the cab.

Absolutely! It's not considered anywhere need as important as the head is by most. Mostly some bass players will spend a lot on a head, go cheap on the cab, and then wonder why their sound isn't up tp par.

When you think about it, it doesn't really make a lot of sense to do that, but then again, who am I to talk about that. If anyone has pulled that crap, it's certainly me. Your sound does come out of a speaker, and if you have a crappy speaker, it's not going to help you much, no matter what amp you are using. Then of course, there's the bass, itself. There's that factor, too.

You know Paul, you and I know each other from online here. And I consider you a close friend as possible online as it is. If you and I were face to face friends you a player, and me more of a Roadie, I would've asked you, why did you but that 18' cab? Image I'm saying that in a very joking way as if we were old friends. That's just the way I would've said that to Ron, or Nick two of my closest high school buds, and beyond into serious bands. That was one of those, What?,..................... 18"?
Saying that about a cab that maybe should have not acquired. I've done that too, many times.
I have gone back to my old school ideas, get the head, (prime objective), then find a cab that matches the head.
You;'re a good guy. ROAD REX APPROVED!!!

Yeah, I guess I got the 18" cab because I was on this serious mid 60's British Invasion music kick, and they had the Vox Foundations, and all of that, and apparently Bill Wyman still uses an 18", but it's Ampeg. I thought it would be cool, since it wasn't that common anymore. Unfortunately, reality was different than the dream. It could have also been the fact I was running the Orange head, and the violin bass with it, which was also the problem. I hate to say it, but that violin bass can be a pain in the arse to amplify. It's because it's a cheap one, and the pickups in it aren't as strong. What do you expect for $100, though? I imagine a real Hofner would be a lot different, or even that Epiphone knock off, but $$$.

Even not factoring $, as we know every bass is different. Not every pup from the same box is the same either.

I hate to say it, but like the 18" speaker, I might have to give up my whole concept with the violin bass, as well. It sucks, because I like it, but it might be too problematic for any professional use. I previous tried to record with it, through the MXR pedal, and it sounded like a boomy mess, and now it was a lot weaker through the Ampeg head, compared to the Ibanez, and kind of sounded muted, like the strings were choked, as well.

It's weird, because I don't get that with the Fender amp, or maybe I just don't notice it. It could also be the Rotosound flats on it. Rotosound has a tendency to be kind of stiff with their tension, which is why I had to switch to light gauge on those things, before I tried out the Dunlop ones. LaBella makes strings specifically for Hofner basses, which I'm wondering if they'd do any better? I don't know, but the whole thing can get frustrating sometimes.

From what I've seen on the La Bela Beatles Bass strings, the top winding area of the strings are standard guitar size to fit into the small winding hole openings on Hofner basses.

My bass just has the regular tuners on it, so that wouldn't be a factor. I'm just wondering if the tension is any different on those?
