Well, there's nothing wrong with having something that you can just stick with and knowing what to expect. Sometimes, you feel like shaking things up a bit and trying something new, but it's also good to know you have something you can depend on, as well.

I know what you mean about trying something new. I guess I just like the knowing what will happen, and know what to expect anymore. (old guy stuff).

It's always good to know what usually works and you can rely on. Although, sometimes even those things can go wrong, too.

Anything can screw up, that's for sure. If it didn't, you wouldn't need Roadies.

Good question. Maybe the same guy they named the Murphy Bed after. Who the Hell knows. Image

I guess so. I'm glad I wasn't involved in it.

Hopefully, this one will work out for you. 8) It's funny how we actually can go through so much gear, in even a short amount of time. Looking back to when we last used this thread in the beginning of December of last year, I was talking about debating getting flats for that Precision Bass, but now I've sold it, and bought a short scale Ibanez, and will probably go through the string debate again. This time, I'm planning on playing and keeping this bass. To be honest, I like it a lot better, not that the Precision was bad, but it just "fits" better for what I need it for, if that makes any sense. I also think it has a nicer neck to it, as well. You've gone through some basses, so you know what I mean, I think.

It's almost like it's a rite of passage when we play, to find, and hang on to the perfect gear to have. I've been a witness to players on the road, go into a shop while on the road, and change out gear. One fun part of being a head Roadie on the road was going along to the shops as a sort of an advisor, "what do think of these Sunns, as compared to the Marshalls?"etc. That was cool.

I don't think it's set in stone, even when you do find something. Who knows what will happen a month, or a week from now.

True, but I'm working on keeping it all, more than before.

I suppose if we were multimillionaires, we could afford to just pile on all of that crap, and go through it with whatever you feel like playing with. At least then, you don't have to go through hoops to try and wheel and deal selling old stuff to get new stuff, then wishing you left well enough alone. :P

You know, that's why the Who got back together and toured again after the early 80's. The Ox was still buying a bunch of crap like he did in their heyday, but then he wasn't making the money he was to keep doing that, and he got in trouble. He probably should have invested money, instead of trying to rely on royalties and all of that, because then his money would have made money. That's what I'd do, if I ever came into a large amount of cash. You'd be foolish not to, this day and age, as long as you make the right investments.

It would be nice to have the funds to do the acquisitions without parting with gear you like, just not as much as you may like the new gear. Tradeoffs do suck.
