Very true about the 1,000 watts, 4X12, 64 pound cab. Part of the lighter weight may come from the back opening for that speaker, plus the overall cab size is probably smaller with the forth speaker mounted to the rear, in place of the traditional four square set.

That, and I do believe they are Neo speakers, as well.

Yep. A good possibility I forgot about. The NEO's do reduce the weight considerably. All these new fangled things in the 21st century! Image

Yeah, they do reduce that, which is nice when you have to haul a bunch of crap around.

I would've appreciated NEO's back then.

I'll bet. You know there was no such thing has a 4 x 12" cab, especially a bass cab, that weighed only 64 pounds. Hell, they didn't have that even in the 90's, from what I remember.

I believe you're right. 4X12's Did seem to go dormant for quite awhile.

I suppose they've also been more known for guitar use than bass, unless you're going back to the late 60's, into the 70's, where they pretty much plugged into the same amps. I suppose Ampeg coming out with the 8 x 10" configuration, and the use of 15"s and 18"s for bass took away from that.

12"s Had a bit to offer, but the players thought they were old school, and needed the 15's. What can you say.

I suppose things go through trends, as well. Something might be popular one year, then something else the next. Although, it's probably not as fickle as fashions might be, since there's more invested in them.

I'm seeing 12's being talked about more, and more lately. Nice to see old 12's getting popular again. My HyDrive 12 is breaking fine.

That's good to know. I thinks it's also great that there are other options out there, so you have a variety to choose from. Speaking of the Hartke, for some reason, I just remembered something that they had, probably 10 to 15 years ago, around that time period. They actually had an aluminum 2 x 12" cab, but it was just the old school type (aluminum is old school now? :P) and oddly enough, it was a 300 watt at 4 ohm cab, but I think was designed to handle a lot of low end, according to the specs. http://www.samsontech.com/hartke/produc ... nets/2200/

I don't remember seeing that one at all. What a beast!

Yeah, it was. If you had one, you could probably swap out the speakers for the HyDrive ones, and have a 600 watt cab, but still have some of the aluminum speaker aspects.

I never checked out the availability of the replacement Hartke drivers. They do seem to hold up pretty well.
