That was only 2014. The 2015 models didn't have them, and the 2016s don't either.

But I agree that they are hideous. The 12th fret text bar is what has stopped me from buying an ESP.

At least it's not as bad taste as the big curved "ANNIVERSARY" on the body front of 1979 strats. I'd rather be seen wearing a tutu than one of those.

Dropping the automatic tuning system did lower the price of the 2016 models but Gibson is being deceptive with some of their USA guitar pricing. The $1,199 G-Force stripped SG Standard ships with a gig bag instead of a hard case this year. So does the 2016 Firebird.

The Firebird never had Tronical tuner.
And the bag instead of case is likely a small factor, but not the main reason - you certainly didn't get a $800 case with last year's Firebirds...

So yeah, there is some price drop on the guitars themselves. On average, and taking into account normal tuners and lack of case on some models, I'd say most of the Gibsons have dropped around $100-200. Some less, and some more.

Anyhow, the combination of the Gibson and Ibanez price drops and Fender price increases is visible in the stores. I just visited a GC, and Fender certainly had a much smaller presence than last year. Fender might have increased their prices as a delayed reaction to Gibson increasing their prices for two years, and got caught by surprise by Gibson's big price drops.
Anyhow, I predict that Fender sales will suffer, and apparently, the local GC seems to think so too.

There is no way the Tronical tuner would fit on the Firebird's uniquely shaped headstock. The 2015 Firebird I looked at did come with a decent hardshell case but it had the wider fretboard and brass nut which were deal breakers.

I'm not disputing Gibson's price drops. They're trying to make up for last year by blowing out the 2015 models at clearance prices and lowering the prices on the 2016 USA models.

The street price of American Standard Fenders has gone up to $1,299.99, which is $50 higher than the price of the American Standard HSS Shawbucker Strat I traded for in June. It's reaching the upper limit for me and making me think twice about buying the American Standard HH Tele I planned to buy at the end of the year.

Yeah, if it wasn't the goofy signature graphic, it was the Min-ETune then the GForce, the brass nut and the wider fretboard.

Henry Juszkiewicz made me a Strat Man for 2015 and I'm glad he did. :)
