I am 62 and retired. I can finally afford some of the guitars I couldn't get when I were a lad, and I have the time to play them.
Best of all, I don't have to play to impress anybody (like a peer group) and can play any damned thing I want, however badly. I just put on the headphones, turn it up to 11, and whale away at the strings. I like the noises it makes.

I have recently (past two summers) learned that my little town hosts an excellent 3-day music festival ("Sappyfest") featuring a lot of local indie bands. I was never able to go before because of my work schedule.
There I've learned three things:
1. Always sit down between sets.
2. Always wear hearing protection.
3. Always park yourself up front near the stage, between the PA speakers and the mosh pit.

Well I guess I have to wait 4.5 more years before my "Life Begins". Seriously, I think still playing after all these years has helped many seniors keep their minds fit and sharp. Keep pickin!

In 2 months I'll hit 68. Thank God for the Blues, Rock and Roll, Instrumentals and such. No matter how much I like heavy rock, etc, I can't jump like Pete Townsend or sing like Steven Tyler or any of the other dudes out there. My hair is white but my soul is black.

I'm not as slim as I was but I still can rock. Drummers can look good as they age with pretty much any genre; but, I wonder how long I can keep up with the Rock Star image. Right now, I'm using Keith Richards and Chuck Berry as my examples, but I know the day will come when I will have to give in.

I'm with John on this one. I may end up being the entertainer and the audience. (at least my wife loves me).

What's really funny is I'm biologically old enough to be a grandfather at 43, yet a lot of you are old enough to my father. But my parents had me late in life and they're pretty much old enough to be your parents. My oldest sister is 61 and she has a son who's only a year and a half younger than me. So I have this weird generational thing going on because I grew up with the same music as you did with parents roughly around the same age as your generation's parent and it doesn't seem like your generation is that old to me, even though technically it is.

The funny thing about rock of ages is that, with today's Dee Jays and the club/concert scene, one can put on a set of cans and spin tunes till the cows come home. It wouldn't make any difference whether you're four or a hundred and four.

My father, when in his 70s, was introduced to Frank Zappa music, liked it, and he and his brother were cool long before I learned the word. They remained so throughout their life. I'm loving the introduction to new and old bands found in this Forum, and I'm having a lot of fun since I turned 65. Getting a Strat at that time made me a believer that life gets better with age, all things considered. :D
For the younger ones out there, we oldsters hear you and your music. A lot to love and a lot to hate. But we old timers can say the same about any music that has come before. Telling the difference is a learned art. IMHO.

We need mates like you Rhumba to keep the faith. Keep on keepin' on my friend.

Thanks FSB. I started out on my musical journey back in 1963 and I've never stopped loving and playing music and will carry on for as long as I'm alive. As you know music gets in your soul and keeps you feeling young.
I have quite a lot of guitars that I will never sell, I will hand them down through the family. A kind of legacy that can be enjoyed by next generations that will come along. You never know, some guitar genius might appear one day.
Like most guy's of our generation I had to work hard and wait a long time before I got my first good guitar, a Fender Telecaster and man I was the happiest guy in the world, I took it home from the shop and just stared at it for hours.
I will certainly let my heirs know exactly what they have got, there is history and stories behind all of them and for all it's hardships I think we lived through a great, fantastic and exciting era.

No it's not Beck or Clapton, it is in fact me....Rhumba, haha, Now that I'm getting the hang of this video thing I'll see if my mates still got the full version on his mobile, it actually goes on for 9 mins. or for as long as you can stand it.
I was just getting to the fancy technical bits when it got cut off lol.
It's me jamming along to Warren Haynes who isn't actually there but I believe he wanted to be, so I hope you enjoy it and I'll do a better job as soon as I can but it gives you an idea of me for now, seeing as how I've never shown myself before
Cheers for now peeps

It's still cut short but easier to get at, if you can't see it just give the space a click

I'll say the same to you, that I was told to me when the girl next door knocked on the wall of my garage "Man, you can really play that thing".
