It's not you. Creedence is at or near the top of most misheard lyrics lists.
Fogerty had a good voice, but not the best articulation.

AND some of the most nonsensical lyrics ever. But I do fit the post topic invitation on both counts!

I think he actually sang that line at one of his shows a while back.

I agree with the consensus on chooglin'. (Even though I've never heard anyone use it!)

This should expose a bit of generation gap here as us older folks had to get lyrics by listening over and over again from a record or a tape, and then writing with a pen (gasp!) what we thought we heard. I just found an old songbook where I had a line for As Tears Go By crossed out and corrected. Not sure who the artist was.

"Doing things I used to do,
Play things are new"
It was actually "They think are new."

Ahhh, life without Google! Crazy.

Yeah, chooglin sounds like a good idea.
I remember those days very well, when the entire band was huddled around a record player trying to figure out what lyrics some of those groups were singing. Mostly, that took longer than learning the song. :D

Pretty hard to do with an 8 track.

Especially if it changed channels in the middle of a track.
Those ones were so frustrating.
And after a while they became so common I started adding the criteria of "all songs unbroken" as part of my personal judgement whether an 8-track was good or not.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

45s, 33s. and 78s slowed down to 16 helped me learn Sandy Nelson and Krupa beats along with others. Gosh, I'm old.

Speaking of 8 tracks, why is it if you come across any in some thrift store it's usually a Nils Lofgren solo album? You don't know how many times I've seen that in different places. :P

According to Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, any cassette left in a car stereo will eventually turn itself into a Best of Queens album.

More amusing is being a french kid learning english. Deciphering lyrics back then was a challenge although lyrics never were the driving force to a song for me. Most bands lyrics are pretty awful as far as English composition and poetry are concerned...
On the other hand I still have problems understanding Alvin Lee's singing, let alone Mick Jagger.. As for Kurt Cobain... will just leave that one to rest
