If you're desperate to keep a pick oriented, try one of these:
Herco® Flat/Thumbpicks from Dunlop.

Four different thicknesses. They feel more like a flatpick than the usual thumbpick.

I used to have nothing but any number of sharkfin-shaped picks, Tortex or nylon.

The first joint of your index finger fits the convex curved edge, and the scalloped edge goes against the middle finger's first joint.
Now, not so much.

I tried a few with small bumps, like Brain nylon "cat-tongue" picks, or with raised lettering like Graphtech (by Tusq), but now I prefer (paradoxically) the more slick material, like Ultex, Dunlop Gels (polycarbonate?), and Dunlop Delrin.
Maybe because they are smooth there is more surface contact.

If I was going to sculpt a pick grip (with hot glue, Plasti-Dip, or hockey tape) I think I'd make two horizontal lines on the thumb side (middle and top edge?), and two vertical lines on the index finger side.

After being a bass player who uses only fingers for more then 20 years, holding and using a pick is still a struggle for me. Now I do play alot of John Prine fingerpicking type of music but for strumming it just seems a pick would be better.

I'm very intrigued by the thought of the thumb picks that are "light" gauge. All the ones I've ever found were heavy and just too much for me. I will definitely look into those.

Everybody drops picks but I use v-picks now, they stick to my fingers and they come in many shapes, sizes and styles. You may think of them as expensive but to me they are worth the money, I don't use anything else now. In my opinion the best picks I've ever tried and I've been through a lot in my time.

Haven't we All...I looked up reviews on the "V-Pick"...good suggestion Rhumba... :D

I'll keep my eyes out for some...a Pick that warms up and slightly sticks to your fingers...Gotta Try Them...

I've just bought £200 worth to add to my collection. Superb picks.

When I was visiting my sister and playing her guitars, I used her Star Picks. I thought they were really nice! Still, I use classic Fender picks at home.

Well, I won't speak for others, however I have the same problem...particularly when I'm playing live/sweating my $@! off. This is my own opinion of course, however I honestly don't care what others say...if your hands sweat when you play, it's NOT a matter of "technique"...if you're hands sweat like mine do, that pick is gonna slip and slide a bit. Either way, while some folks prefer gidgets and widgets, here's my suggestion...stop into a bowling alley (yes, you read that correctly...I said bowling alley) and get yourself a bag of "rosin"....should only be a buck or two. I -know- it sounds crazy, but it works...if your hands start sweating, just grab the rosin bag between your index finger and thumb and wa-lah...no more pick sliding around. I keep one or two in ziplock baggies in a couple of my guitar cases.
