I often hear of people tiring of bands or claiming that a certain genre is SOOO last decade (not here, i am painting with the broadest of brushes). There are certainly some bands that come and go from our musical taste quicker than batting an eye. What are some of the bands that are always with you? Bands that never seem to grow old in your mind?
- there are a few that although i don't play them every day certainly never grow old. Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, The 5.6.7.8s are always part of what i listen to. How about you guys? What bands never go out of style for you?

Well, the Royal Danish Orchestra has been peforming since 1448. They started doing brass-only gigs before they could find a drummer, much like Satchmo.

This one is easy...

The Beatles.

C'mon, you gotta admit - they started it all! I think every band in every genre of music, was (and still is) influenced by The Beatles.

I'd have to say Led Zeppelin. Despite the fact I go off in different tangents, depending on my mood, that band has always been with me because that's what started it all for me, before I even picked up a bass. When I first heard the opening riff to "Heartbreaker" that cemented it in for me. I wanted to be a part of that sound somehow. The funny thing is the music I do really doesn't even sound like that at all. It's mostly influenced by post punk and New Wave from the late 70's early 80's, which is also a big impact on me. It's just Zeppelin was the spark and I've never got tired of them. In fact, I've heard different things in their music that I've never realized until I became more experienced as a musician.

A lot of bands from the 60's, but final answer, MOUNTAIN!

I've mentioned it on this site before but maybe it bears repeating.
In my world bands come and go like stomp boxes but a small few bands keep resurfacing.
Some have been named already but one seems to return particularly often.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Little Richard, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, The Ventures, The Beach Boys, James Brown, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Cream, The Doors, Santana, Sly and the Family Stone, this list could become very long lol.

In Australia, Cold Chisel will always be with us. :)

Formed 1973, still going. Australia's number 1 rock band.

I'm sure some will say AC/DC and some will say Little River Band.
Put two Australians in a room, and you'll have three opinions. :D

This is just my own personal opinion (as always) but I honestly don't think good music ever goes out of style. Personally I still listen to MUCH of the same music that I did some 20 to 30 years ago...Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, The Who, ELO, Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB King, etc.. I'm also a big fan of folks like Elvis, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys...as Solid Body said there, the list could become very long indeed. I can even dig some of that big band stuff from the 40's...Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and certainly folks like Duke Ellington and Louie Armstrong...there's just soooooo much really great music out there!

Along with that, I also have to add that in addition to being a music lover...yea...wow...I'm a guitar player too. The truth is that if I had a dollar for every time I've ever played Johnny B. Goode or Louie Louie...yea...I'd be living in serious luxury. That said, when I play those tunes, people young and old STILL get up and dance!

Now I will say that there are a few performers or bands that I only have a limited tolerance for...AC/DC and Rush come to mind as their "sound" has really evolved very little over the years. Don't get me wrong...I love folks like Neil Young and John Fogerty, but I can usually only handle small doses at a time (LOL).

I think that people who "tire of bands" or claim that their "last decade"...such people really aren't about the music as much as they are about the fad.....people who are more concerned about the latest trends. They're the kind of people who are more concerned about looking "cool" to their friends and forget the simple joy of a really good tune. I suspect that people like that are the same people who just have to have the newest, latest, coolest gadgets as well...ipads, ipods, smartphones, apps, blue tooth headsets, 60" 3D flat screens with 84.7 surround sound, yadda, yadda. I dunno...maybe they just have limited attention spans or perhaps they're just scared of being "dated". Personally I never got that...either I dig something or I don't.

Anyways...again just my own opinion but very simply, good music endures.

Rush, Yes, the Rolling Stones, and the Beatles are still very fresh for me. All of these bands have produced so much great music, and the bulk of their catalogs still sounds so good. As for Led Zeppelin, all I can listen to any more is the latter stuff which does not get played over and over: Physical Graffiti, Presence, In Through The Out Door, and (the very under-rated) Coda. As for Pink Floyd, just Animals ... if I am in a Floyd mood, I will go to David Gilmour's first solo album.

Ya beat me to it...even though they were the soundtrack to a particular era of my life, that album is very timeless.

Several years ago, they recorded an excellent live CD/DVD (called "Living In A Dream") and released three new studio tracks, with the promise of a new album, but there seems to be no traction on that promise coming true.

On a related note, Charlie Sexton looks bad...I know his brother (Will) had a stroke a few years ago, but Charlie looks sickly...

Sorry to derail the thread.
