EarthQuaker is a cool and funky company that makes some wild and crazy stuff. That pedal fits right in. The autowah response and sound are superb IMHO. Have some great times with that little toy, Alex.

Thanks, for the sample.

I changed out the Fender Bassman 115 Neo cab, for an Ampeg SVT-212AV. I kept the Bassman 500 head. The two match up very well. The Ampeg is giving me optimum output from the bassman 500, with one cab instead of two cabs. Image

Thanks, it's working out fine. Some nice tones, and it's full power out put. I wish Fender would've made a Bassman 212 Neo. 2X12 cabs are getting popular again, with players seeing the advantages of the 2X12 configuration. Image

For a second there, I thought you were talking about the band, since I do believe Gene Simmons used Ampeg . :P

I suppose you could find some old Bassman 2 x 12" cab and put some Neo 12" bass speakers in it. You'd think they'd have an option of a 2 x 12" cab, though. They do have a Rumble 12" cab, at least.

Not totally related, but I do have a Mustang IV with 2x12s, and someday it will be supplemented or replaced.

I and others here have used single speaker cabs and amps that can and do sound very good indeed. There are exceptions to be sure. I’ve also been down the low features and high end quality route too. Sometimes, that ends up being long in the tooth needing an extra implant before or after. IMHO. Strangely, even as an audiophile I know the weakest link will affect the overall and the source has a great deal to do with it. Without a great ending in the chain you’ll never have a good start though.
I think it depends on how the combined gear is used. By itself, for line out to a PA, by miking to a PA, for recording, or practice, or a combination of these. To simplify, if it sounds good then it is good. I once asked a Sony engineer why a specific hardware didn’t compete with specs, used filters and so on when they were not needed. He said they initially tried it without success. His answer was simple. It sounded better that way. No contest. Speakers sometimes do or don’t look good on paper too; but they have a job reaching for maximum result when used as intended where I don’t think one size fits all. Think of the little fellas in a recording studio and then on stage. Maybe they do. YMMV.

I originally considered the Mustang V with the head amp and 4 speaker cab, but hauling it up and downstairs was prohibitive. The Mustang IV was the solution, but weight is still a factor. A matching twin speaker cab would have nailed it. Two of the same instead of four in the available cab would have been icing on the cake.

Now, having been spoiled with the more economical and convenient 2x12s (as opposed to two single more adaptable cabs) that work fine, I’m of the opinion that this is the way I’ll try to go again. Never say never though. After all single 15 inch speakers have their following. :P

Can you hook up an additional cab with that Mustang combo, or you are just stuck with what it has?

I never did understand why Fender didn't put out a Bassman 2X12 cab. To late for me now, if they do. The Ampeg is a good cab being a 4 ohm. If Fender did a 2X12 cab, it would in all probability be an 8 ohm, and I wouldn't acquire one anyway.

I wouldn't mind an 8 ohm 2 x 12" bass cab, so I could run it with the 18" cab. The Orange also has switchable impedance, which means I can put the full power (actually it's 900 watts instead of the 1000, not like that extra 100 is going to make or break me at that point) in either impedance setting by a flick of a switch. I just have to remember to have it on the proper setting depending on the cabs I'm using. It would be a no no to have it set for 8 ohms and having 4 ohms of cabs loaded into it.

Nope. No speaker outputs. Only a headphone jack for powered speakers. The Mustang V is for 8 ohm cabs.

Last night I went to a casino to see Canada’s legendary David Wilcox with his Tele (not DW from Stateside), and there was an Ampeg stack pumpin’ out the bass.

Congratulations on your new Ampeg, Glenn and congratulations on your new pedal, Alex. May you enjoy the great sounds for a long time. :)

You're thinking about swapping out it's speakers then?
