Great review on your Helix, Matt. My.bet is that you'll get most out of it eventually. I hope that manual is written for real people because the gear looks awesome. Thanks, for the post, Matt. Enjoy that box.

Interesting tidbit:
I worked on a Fender tone.
A small Tweed pushed almost to the point of breakup.
It does break up just a bit but you have to hit the strings like you mean it.
I have to say it sounds pretty darned good through my little Boogie.
I added a little bit of tremolo and it's pretty compelling.

The interesting part is that this Tweed model doesn't like any of the cabinet emulations.
Out of the many possibilities I couldn't find a single one that sounded anything like a Fender, whether Tweed or Brown or Black or Silver.
As soon as I deleted the cabinet from the patch it opened right up and sounded much better.
As I learn more I'm sure some things will begin to make more sense.

Once I get about 6 or so usable patches I'll try dragging it over to the p/a and see how it sounds without the Boogie, straight into the board.

I know what you mean by cabinet emulation. I think the initial response will be different depending on your playback source such as choice of amps or PA combos or speakers and whatnot. Through an interface and DAW there may be more equality. The total effect may simply come down to what cab selection may sound like in any given setup without a predetermined exactness (if that makes any sense). In other words, I don't think one size fits all. YMMV :P

Having spent a number of hours with the Helix today I've taken the Kool-Aide.
I am a believer.
Digital CAN work.
You just gotta pay an arm and a leg, that's all.
I already knew that from my experience with Eventide products.
This thing isn't one of those toys that I try in music stores just to see what the masses are clamouring to.
There's actual tone in there.
Tone even a snob like myself can appreciate and use.
The most surprising part is that there are dynamics in there too, something sorely missing from every toy I've touched out of curiosity.
I imagine that some part of that is because I'm feeding the signal to a real amplifier rather than a small portable hi-fi with a carry handle.

Sifting through all the sand to find the pearls is the only downside to this machine.
Figuring out how to tweak stuff was a little challenging at first because my head was still .... I dunno .... somewhere else.
There is a ton of stuff in there I'll likely never use.
I guess the price-point warrants that approach.
People expect more bells and whistles when they shell out significant coin.

Anyway, the verdict is in.
It's a keeper.

Nice. This pedal is so popular that it has many copycats; but, you can't go wrong with the original (especially at a discount).

Enjoy, the fun, Dee.

The amazing GT40, which has Tweed, Blackface, Vox and Marshall models that sound so good it's scary. The Twin, Deluxe, and Bandmaster models sound so fat and clean that it's hard to believe that those sounds are coming from two 6.5 inch speakers. I hear none of the muffled or out of phase sound that some people complain about, and it's super easy to tweak sounds using just the onboard controls and screen without a smartphone. The best purchase I've made since my CP 60s Strat.

Been wanting one of these since they were introduced but I decided to wait until I could see one in a store, plug it in and play it. Oh, and it had to be Olympic White or Torino Red. Done, and yes, this Olympic White Mustang 90 passed the audition. :)

And it's the perfect complement to the Arctic White Duo-Sonic I bought last year.
