Thanks, for your kind words sfceric64.

Many guitars got my close attention. Were I younger or gigging my choices would include a wider selection, although I wouldn't rule this Taylor out. Not being swayed by marketing (as a former savvy commercial director), I left options open as to brand on this search. Having had other acoustics, each quite different in size, purpose, and build, I knew even same brand models could vary from each other.

Taylor, oddly, was not on my radar. I had just narrowed the choice to 3 guitars from 3 other manufacturers. I gave them a last once over, and picked a well thought out decent sounding Fender. Preferred cutaway versions were out of stock. That was something on another day that may have sealed the deal with the Fender. With acoustics, I prefer hands on audition, less so with known electrics. That ruled out my placing an order. Solid top was a must, solid body was okay too; however, owning solid hard wood floors, I know there are pluses and minuses with layered and laminates as well (especially, when it comes to humidity). Filed sharp frets were applied on my solid wood Strat last year. The Taylor frets are smooth, but still humidity at home is a concern. The best guitars I have heard are solid wood throughout, but some of the worst solids are also horrific. Hand built are beautiful as long as someone like me or another lacking the right stuff isn't responsible for the end product, and that doesn't come free. If it sounds good and plays good and doesn't fall apart it's likely a candidate. Just be sure it's not a devil in disguise.
I then saw and tried the Taylor just before pulling the trigger. I omitted cool elaborate controls that included a tuner, and some glam and glitter (bone ugly needed to not apply though) for a better natural recording sound. I would have preferred larger fretboard inlays. The Grand Auditorium is more than suitable for strumming and picking, not being master of either.

I looked to where I believe the expense was directed for a more base sound, volume, and build. YMMV. To me it's not perfect, yet this cutaway works and plays well, better than many I was partial to, and even comparable to some more expensive axes. In my earlier considerations I found that some electronics, while they sounded good, and even great at times, varied in a reliable design or installation. I even saw new out of sight rusted and peeling chrome on tuner shafts. Things like this are a downer if the guitar is one that you might consider as I did for one.

The 114ce's satin finish alongside the glossy Strat is not hard on the eyes. Over my years of not playing I forgot how great sounding heavier acoustic strings felt though. My fingers definitely need a workout. :P

I believe this guitar doesn't meet everyone's preference. I found it does not have dominant bass, midrange, and treble overtone characteristics that complement each other as found in some other brands. It does have a pleasant Taylor sound of its own in that it is pretty even through bass, midrange, and treble. Definitely more musical than flat sounding if that makes any sense. It reminds me of the three bears. Not to much lows, midrange, or brightness. For me it's just right. This could possibly benefit equalization and such depending on how it is applied. My TC Helicon VoicePlay GTX and Lexicon are standing by to add to my acoustic's vibe. Time will tell, but as it stands, it is a keeper, and wife approved.

There's sure a lot of goodies out there among the not so great. This one somehow  made it to a new home without breaking the bank in this day of rising guitar prices or compromise.

2017 Taylor 114ce Walnut with Ebony (Hecho en Mexico). :D

Thank you, Paul. Glad you like it. I'm told we'll see more walnut on guitars soon.

The Canadian dollar has taken a tumble and looks to be slipping even more so when I heard and played this guitar (Fender: Please, add electronics throughout the Paramount lineup), the time was right. :D

Funny how there are so many beautiful new guitars out there, and yet when I have a specific desire for a used one it seems to avoid me?

Nice looking Ric! 8) I wasn't expecting you to even get another one again. What made you change your mind?

Everything is the way a Ric should be. The Walnut is decent on it too. I've been kicking it around to getting back to one bass again. It just suits me better playing one bass.

Well, if you're going to have only one, it's a nice one to have. 8)

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
