Looks to be a great choice, Glenn. While some like the rat roddish raw industrial appearance, I’ve always liked that snobby Fender glam look for wife approval (yeah, like that makes a difference). “Oops! Sorry, Dear. Just kiddin, talkin’ to da fellas”. Talk about a Rumble. :P I won’t question the sound as I know the tonemeister of bass gear will have picked a goodie.

Thanks Marky. It's only 22 pounds, easier for this old man to move around. I like the sounds from it too. My Epi plays well through it too.

I got rid of my beloved 65 Twin for the same reason. Now I have a couple of light weight solid state amps and a small acoustic amp. I have to say that me new ME-80 effects pedal does not sound great with a solid state amp so I'll have to find some cheapo used tube amp. Maybe a Blues Junior.

You parted with a 65 Twin? Wow! You do what you have to do, I've been there myself.
I played bass backing a few lead players that used Fender Twins. One of the finest sounding Fender Guitar amps going. I still remember how great SG's, and Les Paul's sounded through them. There was one guy in particular that ran a Rickenbacker through his Twin.

It was the best sounding amp I ever owned. I got rid of it for three reasons. 1) You already know. I couldn't move it around anymore 2) it was too LOUD for home use and 3) I needed money
like I said, I'm searching for a cheapo used tube amp and maybe my ME-80 will sound better. I think it will. I hope so.
Like you, Marky, I was seriously considering a Twin, and, even though humping and hauling gear is no stranger to Glenn and me, weight is now a killer for me also - unless I recruit Mrs. FSB. Naw. Just kidding. She doesn't deserve any punishment. She’s a keeper.

It would be one thing to lug a Twin or similar around on a main floor, but my gear is down a flight of moderately steep stairs. Up and down is enough to deal with, but still manageable with the Mustang IV weight of 47 lbs. Compare that with my Teac 3340s reel to reel at 46 pounds (still a beast to move not having a handle). At first, wanting a head amp, I considered the Mustang V; but, 78 pounds for the cab and lack of easy portability was not appreciated. The Twin averaging 64 pounds is six 10 pound bags of spuds with another 5 pounder to boot.

I’m considering a small combo just for upstairs or “Lemme see” I could get one of those freight elevators installed or “Eureka!” one of those staircase chairlifts you see on the infomercials in the wee early hours. Hmm. Maybe I could just bolt the twin to the lift and move it up and down the track between floors. No laughing young ‘uns. That’s why they invented wheels. Your turn’s coming.

Or you could get yourself an original, Pre-CBS various amp models for that, or even cheaper. :P https://reverb.com/marketplace/amps?mak ... esc&page=2

Golly gee, Mike and Paul. Now ya got me thinking.
Maybe, I could get a vintage twin, separate the speakers, run one upstairs leaving the other downstairs, and add a remote. :P
Or . . . Just install an instrument input in the living room, run a line to an output downstairs and crank it up. Voila! Whole house studio.
Betcha I could do that for 7,500 smackeroonies.

Where there's a reason or application, there are possibilities.

Instead of a remote, you should put together some sort of Rube Goldberg machine to turn it on for you. :P

Don't let her catch you saying that, otherwise she might burn your toque hats. :P

Nice! Have you installed them yet?

Yes Mark. They do not sound "just like" single coil pickups, but they do get closer then any of the previous versions of noiseless pickups from Fender. Plus, of course, no annoying 60 cycle hum.

The issue for most people will be installation. Here is why, the pickups are about 3/8" taller than standard single coil Strat pickups. This means they will not fit in a standard routed Stratocaster as the holes for the pickups are just not deep enough. You''ll need to remove the neck and deepen the pickup cavity and the wire channel with a router all the way to the control cavity.

For most people this will mean needing to have them professionally installed -- which can get quite pricey -- on top of the cost of these pickups.

But, they sound superb. I have the tools and know how and for me, it was definitely worth the effort.

Thanks for the update, Mike. Wow, 3/8" taller is a lot! That install is probably not for me but I'm happy you're diggin' yours. I have to take a peek and see if you've uploaded some new songs. I'm anxious to hear them.

I bought an inexpensive but really good sounding tube amp. It's the Monoprice Stage Right 15w. It has 1x12" Celestion speaker and spring reverb. Our friend, Timsaudio, was kind enough to make some recommendations for it (upon my request)... "I would keep the speaker, but change out the preamp tubes. JJ ECC83s Gold pin for v1, standard jjs for v2 and v3. A longer reverb tank would sound lusher than the short one." I will follow his expert advice and get those tubes on order today and maybe the reverb tank too after I check the measurements.
