Outstanding! Looking good.
Now that’s a dynamic duo. Nice!

Okay Glenn, and Mike: Loaded silly question here. Aside from the pup covers are the pups and electronics the same? I guess the question comes down to “Has there been a change large or small in the Epi Viola in the pup selection overtime?” or has it remained true to the original? How about finish?

Can you give a weight comparison? That would be interesting. Thanks, my brothers.

Mine has the original pickups (pups) and is very lightweight. The finish is
very nice and I like the Epi case as it fits it well.

I have no issues with my pups, or the finish. My Epi fits into the case nice, and snug. It weighs in at 7.6 pounds, a very comfortable bass. My "Electric Lady" is original, except for the D'Addario ETB92M Nylon strings.
As crazy as it may sound, I prefer my Epi Viola over the German Hofner 500/1 I had. I like the feel of it, and it plays smoother for me anyway. And, no complaints about the sounds from it either. I do think Epiphone basses, and guitars are top quality instruments, and not breaking the bank to purchase them.

Good bit of info. and opinion on Epiphone, Glenn. I read some time ago that (I might have mentioned this elsewhere) a Gibson employee was said to have reported that a few of Gibson’s employees on the line were of the belief that Epiphone was turning out better work and/or quality control than Gibby. This was a couple of years ago though. Who knows? Maybe, some stuff still applies. That would be like comparing the larger Navel orange to the smaller Mandarin; however, the Mandarin can be sweeter at times. At other times it’s the Navel. :P

And, it can also be the difference of Gibson USA, and Epiphone China, / Indonesia. I have to admit, I've a good number of higher priced Gibsons that weren't finished as well as the lower priced Epiphones. For example, Gibson frets haven't been well dressed for some time on the SG Std. basses.

I've played some Epi's but never owned one. I thought they were excellent. I also thought that they were so good because of mods and the set ups the owners did. I used to be a bit of a Gibson snob. I mistakenly thought, how could a guitar that cost a fraction of what my Gibson Les Paul Custom cost be nearly as good? But they are and sometimes they're even better. Lately, I've been having GAS for an Epi ES. Not sure which one as I haven't tried any yet, but I have no qualms buying an Epi anymore. 8)

I know what you're saying about being somewhat hung up on a certain brand, and wondering about the lesser priced ones, and how can they play as well. The things that kept me away from going with another Gibson Bass for example, price for one thing, QC, and they don't offer a Violin / Viola bass as the Epi Viola. Hofners don't grab me anymore. I don't like the lesser choices of strings that will fit the tuning peg holes. The Epi Viola uses a standard bass size tuning peg hole, but the Hofner uses a standard guitar size hole in their tuning pegs.

Price is a big factor for me too these days. I have 2 Gibsons and I won't be buying a third. I've been thinking about selling my Les Paul to finance the Epi purchase and a few other things. The thing I have a hard time coming to grips with is that I would never be able to replace it. But I only play it maybe once a month, if that. Why not sell it be able to enjoy something new? It's a tough decision.

Boy! Do I know that feeling, Marky. The first electric in my hands, as many here know, was a friend’s original ‘62 Daphne Blue with Brazilian rosewood, and yes, there is a difference.

In 2012 after having one slightly used nice player Tungsten Amn Dlx Strat for a short period, I settled on a new 3TSB Amn Dlx and bonded with it because my wife gave it to me for my 65th. and I like it fir my purpose. I looked for a Daphne Blue ‘62 clone, but none were available.

Then a couple of years ago Fender added a Daphne Blue ‘62 to their lineup, and talking with a Fender rep he grabbed one and put it in my hands. Nice. A little different, though. No standout White Pearl cellulose pick-guard or Brazilian rosewood like in the 60s, and a little different tone, but excellent overall.

Hmm. I’d have to trade my gifted Amn Dlx for this baby. Nope! Couldn’t do it.

But, had I the money at the time it would be here at home. Timing is everything.

I did the same thing with a cherry ‘66 Pony Mustang with stainless steel floorboards. For that I had the money. That was a terrible mistake I’ve regretted to this day. :?

How many times a month would you play the replacement for it? Once a month? Hang on to it and PLAY IT.

That's probably the best advice. I play my Strats daily and the Epi would be another fill in guitar.

It's true. I've done it myself over the years, and gained nothing but a new bass I treated the same as the one that was replaced. And some I couldn't replace also. It's a no win situation. Honest. Image

My guess is even if it sits in a corner, that must mean some love and mojo still exists, and that’s hard to replace. Supplement yes, replace no. YMMV.

Went to guitar center the last day of there guitar a thon or whatever and got the deal of a lifetime. Went in to see the new player series strats on sale for $549.
Walked out w a beautiful surf green pearl mim player series. Also picked up a new super champ xD2. When I went to the register and had everything rang up my total was $722. I made the comment,”wow that’s a great deal I was expecting more around $1k.” The employee’s response was, “I put in a coupon for you.” I promptly paid and asked if he could carry the amp out if I pulled the car up to the entrance. I pulled the car up and he carried it out to me.
Sooooooo..........
When I get home I realize that the guitar center employee never rang the $399 amp up! I looked at my receipt and was astonished to see that he didn’t charge me. Now, a week later I’m still in shock.
