Congratulations, Glenn! I'm not very familiar with bass amps so I looked it up and it gets great reviews. Have fun!

Thanks, it fills the bill for what I want to use these days.

Fjord Fuzz Embla.
Looks super cool on the board and sounds great. I´ve been pairing it with a Tube screamer mini and the pair gives me goose bumps.

I just received this gem yesterday. I got a great deal off ebay at $195 + shipping for brand new. It's not a Helix but it gets great reviews and Miami Mike loves his. I'm sure I'll love it too.

WOW! If you have that, how can they fly the Jumbo Jet with that out of the control panel?
Congrats Marky. Image

Very cool. 8) Is it as easy to use as dialing in their stomp boxes, or is there a lot of menu scrolling and programming involved?

Marky be careful w/ that in front of your amp, when/if the pre-amp is engaged it has some serious output.
It's a fun to use ME but takes a good bit of dialing in before saving. The factory presets are so-so, imo. The pre-amp/amplifier emulation is really functional. The reverb is above average. The individual pedal settings can be a pita, they are hard to see/read but the digital number readout helps. The foot pedal definitely needs to be adjusted for best results. I like the on/off switch built in to the guitar input.
I use mine mostly for noodling in front of the TV w/ headphones.
I should add, I have the older ME-70 version so some comments may not apply.
Enjoy getting to know your new ME pedal, it will take a little time but will be a fun tool.

 Thanks, Glenn. It looks a little intimidating but if you read the manual 3 times, like I have, you'd see that it's laid out in a very well organized straightforward manner. I hope to try it today. :D

Thanks, Paul. It has Manual and Memory Modes. In Manual Mode, it works just like stomp boxes. You use the analog knobs that control that particular pedal. It's super straight forward. In Memory Mode, it stores 72 presets. Some are popular factory presets and the rest are for user patches/presets. It's very simple to call up and save presets.

You can create and/or modify presets easily on your computer too with the Boss Tone Studio (supplied free). And you can change the order of presets any way you like. Like I said before, it's very straight forward once one understands its layout.

Thank, sfceric64. I appreciate your advice. I won't keep it too close to my amp when using the pre-amp. I hadn't heard that before. I've read that the Tweed amp is most popular for its warm tone.

Sounds good. 8) I know they make a bass version of that, and a smaller version that's cheaper that looks interesting. Most of the time if I use any effects on the bass, it's just a Boss Chorus Ensemble pedal, but that doesn't mean I'm not open to experiment. I have messed with effects processors in the past, with which you do have to scroll and digitally program stuff into them, but I've found myself spending more time messing with the damned things than actually playing music with them. I like the idea of just turning a couple of knobs, hitting a switch or button, and you're good to go. There's less of the burden of choice to deal with.

Loving your new ME-80, Marky. Very Skookum. Congrats!

There is one thing I’d like to see changed though. Not only on your pedal, but others like them. Take the Fender 4 Button foot switches for Mustangs, I have one, as an example. In this case there are 100 (00-99) presets to draw from. They are logically numbered the same as the number on the amps.

Granted I won’t need them all and I have favourites. However, remembering them all with numbers only displayed is pretty daunting. I can always call up groups as many of us do.

Let’s look at the Mustang amp, Same 0-99 numbers to select from. It doesn’t stop there though. The small amp display also gives you a preset name you can enter or accept as is. There is more info about the preset if you desire, but at the pedal end it is not necessary IMHO. A simple name will do, while a small display on a pedal might be difficult to read.

Moving ahead, we have TC Helicon’s VoiceLive Play’s series of pedals with a decent size bright display that can give you both number and title with deeper information should you need it. My TCH, albeit a vocal and guitar pedal, holds 500 presets that without text would be impossible to remember; although, it can be broken down into groups of genres, favourites, and such.

I understand that the ME-80 has USB connection and that there is preset programming available with the computer. I’m wondering if a small cheap tablet could come into play for titles information. That would be a cool handy addition. You could clip it to a mike stand or on the floor.

Not a criticism, Marky. I too have numeric displays and they do the job. It’s just that great text displays are relatively cheap these days should the manufacturer instead of the price point marketing department decide to add it.

Display with digits or text or no display, it’s in the sound and fun that counts. The ME-80 qualifies for sure.

Enjoy!

Well best of luck with it. It does however look to be well made for function.

Me too. I'm not into programming at all. I tried it for a while in Manual Mode and it was just like using stomp boxes. I was playing in a matter of minutes. It has a builtin tuner and looper and the volume/FX pedal is so easy to setup and use. You don't really have to setup the volume/FX pedal but you can adjust it to feel they way you like.
