Congrats on that steal, Rich. Can’t go wrong with that. I’ve always like the 30’s Art Deco look of D’Angelico and your new addition looks great. Enjoy!

I've been thinking about a full hollowbody Jazz Box for a few years now. Considered an Emperor, but I'm not crazy about the quality of my last Epiphone purchase in 2014... a far cry from my excellent early 90's Les Paul.

So I happened across a D'Angelico Premier EXL-1 on Amazon. Floating pickup and scratchguard, floating rosewood (or ebony) bridge. I do wish it had a shorter scale length to get the string tension down a bit. 12ga strings on a 25.5" scale is rough.
So I added it to my wish list. $750 was retail, so no rush to grab it.
A couple of weeks before Christmas, the price dropped to $375. WOAH! Mistake, or intentional?
I saw that the white one was $450, and the black one was still $750. SOLD!
An hour later, I noticed that the listed price was back up to $750. I'm thinking "Mistake and they're going to cancel the order"
Nope... order confirmed, expected delivery Feb 15 to March 26. Wow... 50% off and it wasn't an inventory reduction?

So my birthday present arrived a couple of weeks earlier!
The action might be a hair high, but I'm going to let it acclimate for a week or so before I jump into a setup.

Nice score Rich and a pre happy birthday!
I really like playing my Heritage 550, its got a nice low action and flatwound 12's.
You'll get used to it but full bends are tuff and take me three fingers and that's only on the B & E.
Enjoy it...

Ya, this came with D'Addario XLs.
The acoustic tone is nice, but it is a little brighter than I expected... I think a set of flatwound will take care of that.

Now I just need to learn to play Jazz.

I bought a Shakere. I'm stocking up on not too loud percussion I can record in my apartment and not piss off my neighbors.

Thank you Sir. They all play just super fine, and I really like Fender basses with Maple fretboards. I ordered a case for the Sea Foam Pearl. I feel a lot better with it safe, tucked in a case.

My Strats have maple fingerboards too and I always keep them safe and sound in hard cases when I'm not playing them. I share your love for maple and hard cases. :)

For me, I don't care if it's a low price, or high price bass, it goes in a case. Fender Maple is a great fretboard. Luckily the Rosewood on the Gibson SG Std. is a nice cut of lumber.

I have a 6 string Gibson SG Standard HP with a rosewood fingerboard too and it's terrific. My Gibson Les Paul Custom has an ebony fingerboard which I like even better than the rosewood. The guitars I play the most are my Strats with the maple. I don't know how to describe it. I'm just drawn to them. :)
