This isn't a new gear purchase but I wasn't sure where to put this.

I updated the firmware on my Helix this morning to take advantage of a few new features.
Just little stuff mostly, like a better tuner algorithm and things like that.
Anyways, I learned something today.
I was not previously aware that Line 6 was either owned by or in joint venture with Yamaha.
The Yamaha trademark was the first thing I saw during the download process.
I will look further into that at another time.

The real reason for this post is something funny I read in the release notes while the update was progressing.

KNOWN ISSUES
*Important: The three new tuner types only appear for those registered users who didn't complain incessantly about Helix's previous tuner on social media. For those who did complain (AND WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE) the new tuner will be unlocked once you perform ONE of the following:

1) Post a photo of yourself on the Helix facebook group with the "X" logo written on your forehead with black Sharpie (washable Magic Marker is acceptable). The admins have been given the authority to unlock units with flagged serial numbers; assuming business hours please allow 1 - 2 hours for the new tuner page to be unlocked. (Note: You may have to restart the Helix/HX for the new tuner page to appear)

2) Post a meme of Arnold Schwarzenegger from Kindergarten Cop yelling, "IT'S NOT A TUNAAAH" on either the LINE 6 Helix or The Gear Page>Digital and Modelling Gear forum. Be sure to use the proper impact font. Memes will not be judged for their artistic merit although spelling must be correct. Again, admins have been given authority to unlock flagged serial numbers.

3) If you'd prefer to participate silently you may instead manually rename 47 presets "Patience Is Key". (Note: Will not work from HX Edit, nor can you just copy one "Patience Is Key" preset into 46 additional locations. You must manually rename each one. Once all 47 presets have been named correctly, the inspector [or HS5 on HS Effects] will read, "Tuners Unlocked!"

Then there are a few more bullet points about what's new with this update.
Then finally at the bottom it says:

Wait. Are you serious about the Sharpie forehead, Schwarzenegger meme, 47 presets thing?
No. This is why you should always read the entire release notes.

I guess I'm going to have to head over to The Gear Page to see if anybody posted a meme.
LOL

That’s a pretty good score ya got there, Rev’. Good price on the laptop for sure. I use Focusrite Scarlett too, and free useful monthly plug-ins brought to one’s attention are a nice bonus to go with all the goodies you get as well as a good and dependable interface. I also got Ableton with mine and I would have preferred Pro Tools, but got Cubase instead. I like Ableton and know some pros who have migrated to Ableton from Cubase and some from Pro Tools. I’m sure the reverse is true too. Cubase is quality stuff, but it can be overwhelming at times, and it’s a time hog on the learning curve which I can spend elsewhere. Still, it’s there if I need it.

Enjoy that new adventure in production with the new tools :D

Thanks. The cool thing about this whole thing is that it came with both Ableton and ProTools. I had to take a ProTools class in college but was so long ago I'm gonna have to relearn it . I've never worked Ableton before but for whatever reason loved programming my old drum machine.

Looks great, congrats! Let us know how it affects your recording. I'm thinking of getting some similar items.

I just got my laptop 3 days early :-)

I'm at work so I haven't gotten a chance to set it up. At least it's just old enough to have USB ports.

Rogue mandolin..a cheap but solid piece for adding extra layers to any recording that needs something folky

That is actually a nicely made instrument. I got one as a pair package with my Rogue RA-100D Acoustic for $100 delivered.
I think Rogue gets a bad name because their instruments are inexpensive. Well I think a lot of the reason they're inexpensive is because they don't spend enough time on quality control as far as 'set-up' and out the door.
My RA-100D came pretty much "unplayable" to an experienced musician (but I expected it to) and after a complete set-up, fret ends filed, fretboard oiled, nut slots filed to sink the strings, nut lubed and a new set of Phosphor Bronze strings it had a quality feel, sound, and look I was completely satisfied with, and actually proud of. I put a pickup in the sound hole and a volume & tone pots on it. Great acoustic/electric!!!
The Mandolin was quality too...aside from moving the bridge closer to the neck, and oiling the fretboard, there wasn't any other set-up or QC issues. Ended up giving it to my daughter-in-law after I realized my fingers were too fat for this tiny neck and fretboard. Looked and sounded just as good as any Mandolin I ever heard.

Nice setup going on there, Blue Notes. As Marky said, there's interest in how you find your Reflection Filter X working for ya. Looks good. It certainly is less expensive than Get Smart’s Cone Of Silence. Takes up less room too.

Light is a great feature, arguments for and against, tone aside. I’d like my Strat to be closer to 7 lbs on either side, but 8 lbs. does okay. I traded off a 2011 Amn Dlx. (after a month) that weighed less than 8 lbs. and it was sweet; unfortunately, I didn’t bond with the colour which, at first, I thought I would. It was Tungsten (black PG and black knobs that matched the amp) with a rosewood fret board. It was a year old from a church, and while it fit comfortably and played beautifully, I liked both the colours individually, but not combined. I’ve owned grey cars, but never a reddish brown or rosewood interior with it. I had the opportunity to drive a Silver Cloud Rolls, but that interior was lighter burlwood. Then there was the grey Prius next door. For me the guitar was a “Fail”. Ebony on the fretboard would have been a game changer that would have kept it in my hands, however. YMMV.

Strange how one can punish their body to have an axe they find heavy. However, it’s like women wrestling to get the tight jeans on. It’s the end result that counts.

It’s working out really good guys, definitely a lot better than without. I’ve recorded about eight songs with it so far, and I can tell a noticeable difference for the better. I won’t record my vocals without it now, and I’m thinking about using it in front of my amps or getting this one here.

Some goofball posted this on the wrong thread accidentally. Don’t ask. I don’t know the guy. I heard he’s got a bag on his head. 8)

Interesting idea. I wonder how that would work with an open backed amp by using it in the back. I bet that would give all kinds of possibilities. Maybe good, maybe not. :P Obviously, reverb and decay and the sort would definitely come into play (no pun intended). Clean may be ideal. Hmm?

I’m thinking I could use it to reduce any possible furnace or A/C bleed in the distance. No biggie. I know of some pretty well known studios that had a truck or other culprit on their recordings. For the most part, a savvy engineer or producer will pick that up and futz around with it; but, there’s always the chance of an odd gremlin that has other ideas.

Then you also added the link to show the traps using the reflector. Whoo boy, I have the vocals, amp, keyboard, and drums screaming at me now.
Nice grab Blue Notes. A truly useful tool. I don’t know if my vocals would improve though. :?
Thanks, for the update. :D

You’re welcome FSB. I’m kinda thinking like you, I might try it on some other instruments as well. :D
