To Coil or Not To Coil

The stretch factor of cool looking coiled cable can be all over the map for sure. Sorry to see that yours didn’t work as planned, White Dog.

Even within brands, as with everything, the product can change over the years, perhaps, riding on earlier reputation or not. Many things are big on claims and appearance and poor on reality. Sometimes, the opposite is surprisingly true. It’s like those kink free garden hoses that aren’t. Still, Clapton, Hendrix, and others had found a use for curly cables even when (or maybe intentionally because) they are a known tone changer.

Once you do , if you do, find that suitable cable, White Dog, you might want to buy more than one for spares, perhaps on a sale, as I often do. Sure saves doing the hokey pokey. YMMV
For the purists, mod/tone afficiandos, and extremists, or just FYI here ya go:

https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/ ... ulator_Mod

Note: Not to say such a mod won’t do as intended, but measurements and specs do not always translate to what one expects to hear or feel as is with most audio. Still it’s a worthy try if desired and affordable. But, will the audience care? My audiophile amp 10Hz - 100khz +/- 3db doesn’t increase audience response either. They just want the music. Maybe their tin can mono Bluetooth speaker will suffice.
As long as the owner can tell the difference and appreciate the end result I say it’s a winner.

Wow! Talk about greased lightning. The new and improved version, to correct sumpin’ spacewolf.

Oh, don't get me wrong...it's a quality built coil cable for sure. My biggest problem with it is the "advertised length". I bought what was supposed to be a 20 foot cable, and, it'll stretch to 10 feet at most before popping out of the amp. And if I try and hook to pedals...I will pull my pedals all over the Studio if I don't stand still.
I still use it, but now it's just a patch cable from my ADI (Driver) pedal to my acoustic/electric amp and sound board.

Here’s a thought, if of use. I wonder if you put a little heat, not too much of course, say from the sun, a hairdryer, or a careful heat gun to it and stretch the cable that way somewhat. You can wrap a cable around a dowel to make one the same way as can be seen on YouTube. Of course, moderation is key and you wouldn’t want to straighten it.

I've ordered some humbuckers and pots/switch to convert my Ric from Toasters to buckers.
Gonne build a complete harness so I can change it back if I like.

My flats for my short scale Ibanez bass are supposed to show up today, hopefully.

That sounds good to get them in before the 4th. Here's hoping they show up today.

A couple days ago, while on our annual visit with relatives here in the mid-west (where we'll spent a few months), spotted a guitar in the window of a pawn shop. Upon further investigation found it to be a MIM Stratocaster. Walked out with guitar in hand at a fair price. Now, I have a reasonably decent guitar to use during our stays here. Based on serial number, it is a 2001. Overall, notwithstanding a few dings, and minor fret wear, it is in good condition. Image

They finally showed up in the late afternoon. I was going on for a walk, and had to do some shopping, so I haven't had a chance to change them out yet. I might just change them out tomorrow, when I get up and after breakfast, since it's getting a bit late to be messing with that now.

Looks to be a great find, Lenny1716. I know how you got grabbed by that pawn shop. Down the street from where my 95 year old mother lives 1500 miles from here, I walked by a pawn shop where from the front window one can see quite a few guitars hanging from the ceiling along the walls. I walked on by the last time because I knew I would get something, and I gave myself excuses to keep walking. I might not get away with it next visit.
Enjoy your find. It looks good from here.

Cool deal. 8) It's always nice when you can get stuff with an extra discount.
