Wow, that's a beauty and a bit of a surprise. How does it compare?

How does it compare to what? You lost me on this one. Of course, this time of the morning is pretty east to scramble my mind.

Sorry... how does it compare to your Fenders? I'm not familiar with Rics. Quality, price, tone, etc.

The tone of the 4003 is about the same as a Precision. Quality is as good as either one can be, at the time it's assembled. There should be a slight advantage to the 4003 for that though. If we're comparing the 4003 to a USA Geddy Lee jazz, Fender Bass, the 4003 is about $400.00 more. The 4003's nut size 1.688", as compared to a Precision's nut size of 1.625. The radius of the fretboard on the Fender is 9.5", and the 4003 is 10". The 4003 neck is through the body, where a Fender is bolted to the body.

That's very cool, Glenn. It sounds like a nice bass. Enjoy!

Thanks, I do like playing it.

Outstanding rock and roll bass, Glenn. I gotta get me a 4003 Jello. :P I can’t afford a Jetglo. Enjoy yours. :D
FSB

Any idea of the Fenders vs Ric weight comparison?

The 4003 Jello is a lot more reasonable in price. The USA GL Jazz weighs in at 10 pounds even, and the 4003 Jetglo weighs in at 9 pounds even.

Thanks, for the quick reply Mr. Nylon. I guess I’ll get the Jello in a different color since they’re out of black.
9 pounds. Very cool. Less than a sack of potatoes. It will be a nice option to have the Ric along with the Fenders. Betcha the PG stays. On second thought the bet’s off because you have an advantage, and it wouldn’t be a fair bet and history shows . . .

I actually like the factory setup on the 4003 as is. So it's staying the same. Image

I recently bought a lpb std p-bass,a rumble 40 and a mustang gt40. Oh,and I bought on ebay (should arrive any day now) a pick used by one of my all time favourite bass players;Melissa Auf Der Maur on Hole’s joint tour with Marilyn Manson, the Beautiful Monsters tour in 1998.

Some pretty nice gear (and pick) to add to your collection, Eljay. That’ll keep ya busy. Enjoy.

Pretty cool. 8) Don't they actually make their own rounds for those basses? I think you can buy them on their site.

I'm pretty sure Ric does make their own strings. Rickenbacker 95511, Electric Bass 4 String Set (45-105). SA offers them as well, for $26.99. I saved the Ric set that I removed from this one.

Ric may produce a good number of their parts. It makes too much sense to produce your own parts. Ric has the control of the parts that way. Availability, design specs, and sometimes even QC. That's the old American way for producing, and backing your product.

Yeah, they are pretty protective with that. They'll also really go after anyone who tries to copy anything resembling their products.

I think it's good to do that. It's their product, not Moe, Larry, or Curly's.

I couldn't find a picture online otherwise I was going to make a visual joke base on moe. bassist Rob Derhak playing a Rick.

C/S,
Rev J

Thanks! The pick arrived today. Pretty cool to know it’s been used by one of favourite bass players!
