Bought one of these.

That's not my amp in the photo but it is almost identical.

I bought it because my father had one when I was a kid and it was the first amp I ever used.

I've been tempting fate with the two prong cord.

It sounds good but starts getting noisy after it warms up.

Changing it to a 3 prong cord is not hard, you really should do it or have it done. :)

Is it a Champ like object?

It's like a champ in that it is a 6v6 single ended circuit. However, it uses an octal pre-amp tube instead of the 12AX7. I think it is a 6SL7.

This looks like the correct schematic.

Sorry for the large image. I don't know how to scale them in this forum.

The original Champ 600 and early wide-panel tweed Champs also featured an octal in the pre-amp, in those instances a 6SJ7. Your Valco is very nice and actually offers a bit more flexibility than the Fender in that it includes a tone control.

Great score!

Hunt seems to know his $hit -- I've chatted with him via e-mail a few times. And my tech buddy in Tucson (a certified Fender diagnostician and one-man authorized Fender service center responsible for four counties) speaks highly of him. You could probably do a lot worse.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
