Former REO Speedwagon guitarist Gary Richrath, whose songwriting and technique were major components of the group’s early sound and success, has died at the age of 65.

Oh no, Gary was my favorite guitar player. His leads would go straight to my soul. This is a very bad day for me.

Rest in peace Gary. I will miss you.

Gary was one of the major influences in my playing style -- I will surely miss him.

:(

RIP

Sad news - I met him in Chicago once - back when he was the
guitarist in this band before REO Speedwagon.

I had the opportunity to work on spotlights on two seperate occasions for REO and met the band both times, very down to earth guys and good to talk to.

Sad to hear about another big loss for classic rock.

I know it's hard to say goodbye but it was time for him to fly.

RIP

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thanks for posting the video IM4Tone, It shows what I call the REAL REO Speedwagon, before the "power ballads". They were the first band I had seen that sounded better live, back in the 70's it seemed like most bands sucked live. If anyone has not listened to "You Get What You Play For" you have not heard the REAL REO Speedwagon. I grew up in the midwest and they would come around and play small events, I'm glad they finally got commercial success, they worked hard for it, but it changed their music.

Now, excuse me while I sit back, fire one up and Reminisce about my youth.

Been on Vacation when I heard that Gary had passed. RIP Gary, and thanks for the great music.

Very much underrated. Saw REO 4 to 6 times. Before the crappy ballad era. (1980 forward).
Always great live much better than most bands of the same era.
