Here's the Supergroup I'm putting together. I'm not sure if everyone will be available yet....
Male Vocal: Paul Rodgers
Female Vocal: Beyonce Knowles
Guitar: John Mayer
Bass: Tal Wilkenfeld
Drums: Stewart Copeland
Keyboard/Piano: Keith Emerson
Harmonica: Howard Levy

I think this would be an interesting mix. Some jazz in the rhythm section, you've got Mayer who is pretty well rounded as a player. Throw in Howard Levy just because he's a musical genius. And Beyonce with Paul Rodgers??!

Anyone else want to play? Everyone in your Supergroup has to be currently living; you can choose as many players as you want.

the super group is pretty much over. what the world likely thinks of as a super group is Cream or Asia. you have the right idea but the artists need to be of the same genre. blues based, rock , metal, hip hop, pop. you have so many today. i would say the only super group around today is the Winery Dogs.

hmmm ok

Neurotic Outsiders
Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) PUNK
Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses, The Fartz) ROCK
John Taylor (Duran Duran) POP
Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses, The Cult) ROCK

So what do we consider a supergroup?

1. There have to be at least three members.

2. They have to have released at least one album — no all-star jams.

3. A majority of their band members have to have been in well-known bands before the supergroup formed.

4. A supergroup cannot be formed by a well-known musician joining a pre-existing band — no Van Hagar.

A proposed Blues Supergroup:

Jimmie Vaughan on guitar
Kim Wilson on harmonica/vocals
Fran Cristina on drums
Preston Hubbard on bass.

Wait, that was one of the lineups for the Fabulous Thunderbirds...never mind!

Really, though...a Blues Supergroup:

Kim Wilson on harp.
Beyonce on lead vocals (listen to what she did with Etta James' songs; the woman can sing blues!).
Marcia Ball on piano/vocals.
Warren Haynes on guitar.
Chris Layton on drums.
Preston Hubbard on bass...

That would be an amazing combination of talent, and Beyoncé's involvement would assure some positive press (see, I'm thinking like an A&R guy).

Here is what my Blues Super group would be ,

Paul Rodgers - Vocals
Angus Young- Lead guitar ( I'm dead serious about this. There's a clip on You Tube of him and his brother Malcolm jamming on stage with the Stones doing some blues and Angus has it ! )
Keith Richards- 2nd Guitar
Tommy Shannon-Bass
Ann Wilson-Female Vocal
Chris Layton- Drums ( I'm not sure about his last name but he was in DT w/ SRV )
Dr. John - Keyboards

It was only for one song...but Dave Grohl called them a "superdupergroup" when Roger Taylor of Queen and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin joined the Foo Fighters on stage to belt out an incredible version of Queen's "Under Pressure."

No word of a forthcoming album...hehehe

Americana Supergroup:

Charlie Sexton-guitar and musical director
Rick Richards-drums (not the guitarist from the Georgia Satellites or the Ju Ju Hounds)
Joe Ely-singer, guitarist, Godfather
Tommy Shannon-bass

For those who don't know, Americana is that genre that's not quite country, not quite rock, not quite folk or blues, but has elements of all of them.

It is interesting that you feel the need to defend your choice of Angus. AC/DC is admittedly very limited in key and time signature selections, along with their lyrical themes (their lyrics were far more thoughtful when Bon was there) ... but Angus is a fabulous lead player. It is almost, though, that you feel many people don't think this about Angus. To me, it is Malcolm's playing that is up to be defended. Malcolm is considered a great rhythm guitarist by some, but (personally) I question this considering how ultra-simple AC/DC's music is. is. I am not criticizing anyone's post ... I just thought that was interesting ...
