SRV ... still my favorite after all these years. I'll never forget that day. Something that sticks out is Kurt Loder announcing his death on MTV News.

This might seem silly, but when I heard about the accident, I listened to Riviera Paradise once and then didn't listen to SRV for a long time after that.

Still like SRV. It's difficult to find a player / band that plays this style and sounds unique. He was one of those special players..

Up here in CT/RI/MA we do have a band / player I would definitely rank up there with SRV.
That is Young Neal and the Vipers ( Neal VItullo if you please.) Never got the recognition deserved unfortunately...

Hands down one of my all time favorite guitarists and artists. IMO he is the best interpreter fo Hendrix, yet he still has his own signature on everything he plays. I was so bummed when I heard about the crash that took him

LeftyElliot, thank you for posting. I remember that day. The guitar world lost a giant. R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Well, what a tragic coincidence! SRV and most of the equipment crew accompanying him were killed in the helicopter crash which occurred a few miles from Chicago in August 27th of 1990. Eric Clapton was scheduled to fly with Stevie but finally changed his mind. This decision saved his life!

Ironically the two bluesmen performed together throughout major cities across the US a couple of weeks before the incident....

This was actually a made-up detail that was later retracted by the press. I guess they didn't think SRV was a big enough name and tried to tie Clapton in for a bigger story. While members of Clapton's crew were on the Helicopter, Clapton himself was never intended to be on that flight.
