I have a book published in 2008 called: "Million Dollar Les Paul, In Search Of The Most Valuable Guitar In The World" by: Tony Bacon. In it, he surmised that eventually one of the 1500-total manufactured Les Paul Sunburst guitars from 1958, 59, and 60 would sell for a million dollars.

Well, this dude may not get it, but the day has possibly come for it to happen (and note that it looks like a dollar sign in the ad, but if this is actually in pounds, because the shop is in London, then we have met the stratosphere):

Annnnnd another:

Note: they take PayPal, in case you're interested.

If I had a million dollars, I'd certainly wouldn't spend it on a guitar, no matter what brand it is or when it was made, etc. I suppose if you were some sort of multi billionaire, then it wouldn't matter I suppose.

They can ask what ever they want but neither of those guitars will sell for that price, or anywhere near it. They both look to be in very good condition which make you wonder if they were duds which is why they spent so much time in a case.
There are several LP bursts that "IF" ever sold, would set record prices.
One would be Billy Gibbons Pearly Gates
One would be Jimmy Page's #1, that Joe Walsh sold him
Another would be Beano, Clapton's LP that was stolen while Creme was rehearsing for their first concert.
Another would be Mike Bloomfields LP that he left behind at a club in Canada, never to be seen again, though there are photos online of it, so someone has it.

Nah. The outrageous $170 shipping is really a deal breaker.

Who knows......perhaps in fifty or sixty years my R9 flametop might be worth seven figures.

A tragedy that I won't be around to reap that dividend.

:(

A million bucks is just way too much for any guitar IMO. The most I would ever pay for one would probably be around 1,200-1,500.00 tops. It just kills me how these rich idiots who don't even play, go and blow all of this $$$$ on vintage instruments only to put them in storage. These are meant to be played , not put on display .

If they're put in storage, they're not put on display. :p

Electric guitar players don't always appreciate how lucky they are.
Other musicians, like those playing bowed instruments have too deal with entry level concert instruments costing as much as a car and good ones easily being six or seven figures. Musicians rarely own their own instruments, but are allowed to play them by the owner (often banks and insurance companies who received them as collaterals), simply because the instruments are perceived to lose their magic sound and thus value if they're not played.

Exactly... Look at the world famous classical cello player, Yo-Yo Ma. His incredible (and equally famous) cello is dated to 1733 and is valued at $2.5 million!!!
The famous classical violinist, Itzhak Perlman, plays a legendary Stradivarius that dates back to 1714, and is reportedly so priceless that it is kept in a vault!

I wouldn't spend over 5000$ for ANY guitar. I play my guitars, no matter quality or price. The risk of a guitar over that price being stolen or broken is too high. I would be nervous with even just a guitar worth 2000$.

Yep.
SK speaks truth.

What I found rather amusing is the "+ $170 for shipping". For a million dollars you'd think delivery with armoured entourage would be included.

Cheers!

What I found funny was just place it on the ground, dirt, grass, turn it over same deal, just lay it on the ground and take pictures. I guess Hank likes the outdoor look.

I think it's far more incredible that he survived growing up in New York City with that name.

Good observation arth1. I'm bettin' if he had dropped the Yo Ma to just being Yo, his life in the Big Apple would have been easier.

Dropping one Yo and adding another Ma changing it to Yo Ma Ma might have been a different story though.
