This article in Premier Guitar's...Last Call column is a good read and might be considered a cautionary tale to some members...or a Rallying Cry!

Titled: Last Call: Player, Collector, or Hoarder?

...and ends with:

This is a cautionary tale: Save yourself while you can. It’s too late for me, but don’t worry. I’ll be okay, alone in my house with my gear.
:D

Well, getting "page not found" from the link. But from the title and end line, I can identify... I'd like to consider myself a player, though I need to play way more. And some might consider me a collector, as I do have a lot of gear. But reality probably places me in the hoarder category  . Hey, what's wrong with having 11 Strats? I mean, it's not like the rest of the "collection" isn't diverse. 8)

ETA: Well, Google took me to a valid link for the article. Hopefully this will lead you there.

If not, try a search on the title for yourself...

+1, although I prefer the descriptive of "care-taker". I rescue used and abused Fender amps, restore them to perfection, then let them live out their days without threat from the philistines who would blaspheme them with mindless mods and hazard them with purposeless experimentation.

PLAYER, COLLECTOR, OR HOARDER

YES, YES and YES.

However, unlike the author, I do not feel guilty about it.

If you are honest and hard working don't ever feel guilty about how you spend your money.

Looking at this definition...I haven't seen a single hoarder or hoarding going on here...

verb: to accumulate for preservation, future use, etc., in a hidden or carefully guarded place:

This sounds just like my music studio/equipment room...just sayin...

I'm reading this magazine right now. It's one of my favorites. 8)

Even having the Internet, there are books, magazines, and catalogues about musical gear that are added to a hoarded collection. Those in my house could probably find another home.

But, I might need them someday.

I have been guilty...of Hoarding... and Collecting...and Playing!! :D

When I found the music room...attic...basement rooms...shelves everywhere...STUFFED...

...I had this kind of talk with myself..and listened. 8)

Now I'm down to one Acoustic & two of my own Strat builds...

Every other corner is STUFFED with Amps...Speakers...Pedals...various "Build" tools...and Lotsa Parts.

I fear it may be too late for me as well.

That was the primary rationale for my latest cabinet project -- I had a surplus speaker, scraps of Tolex and grill cloth, some spare cabinet hardware. Thus my course of action was determined. I've still got plenty of crap left over, but now my shop is just a skosh less crowded than before.

 that reminds me...I totally forgot about the '82 Electra/Matsumoku strat that I'm turning into a Cigar Box Guitar!

...for the same reason...

I'm guilty of being both, a player and collector these days.

Arjay

That means you definitely need to collect more cabs, Arjay. Of course you may run shy of surplus speakers, scraps of Tolex, grill cloth, and spare cabinet hardware. The danger is that with each new cabinet you may end up with excess material, and you'll have to start all over again with even another cab, and so on and so on.
