Happy New Used Bass Amp Day!

The Armadillo Teen has now started bass lessons...at (nearly) 14, she finally chose an instrument after a couple of years of tinkering with everything I have in my herd/arsenal.

Image

She is using my Ampeg Big Stud Bass, but has had to rely on the (terrible) unplugged acoustic sound of said bass during practice (after lessons) since I refuse to allow her to plug in to any of the amps we have available (none are suitable for bass guitar).

After some research and some searching, we hit upon this:

Image

It's a Fender Rumble 150...sounds great for practice, large enough to be heard over a drummer with some finesse and nuance, portable enough (especially with those casters)...and I didn't break my rule of paying no more than $1.00 per solid state watt.

She's happy, I'm happy, Lady Armadillo is happy, Armadillo Terrier is terrified from all the noise...thus, it's a good day at Casa de Armadillo.

Congratulations man! And thank you for helping pass the torch to the rhythm section of tomorrow!

By the way, I don't think a dollar per watt works for guitar amps! A DRRI for 22 bucks would be awesome though.

...but there's that qualifier in my pledge; No more than one dollar per watt on SOLID STATE amps...since this was $125.00, I have cash to spare!

Of course, it's just a joke, but it would be awesome to be able to do that with vintage tube amps...a 60's Princeton, under $20.00!

Ah... so the DRRI is a poor benchmark. BUT, even my wonderfully toneful, infinitely versatile Tech 21 Trademark 60 is just 60 watts. I paid just under $500 for it in 2005.

It's a wattage thing. A 60 watt bass amp might be a fun little tool, but not so useful!

But your point was: You're contributing to the roster of the players of tomorrow! Fuel that fire! Nurture and
mentor on!

Congrats, Armadillo Teen. Enjoy.

Keep up the practice. Good bass players are a terrific addition to any band, great bass players even more. It's All About That Bass.

You cant go wrong with those rumbles. Great sounds for the price. Tell her to stick with it! :D

I'm beginning to agree with you (re: Rumbles being a great investment, especially for what she needs)...I'll pass your words of encouragement on to her!

I'll pass along your encouragement, but I must fine you $1000 Armadillo Bucks* for referencing Megan Trainor.

(1) So much for not having that jingle irritatingly scraping the grey matter

(2) I think Marty Feldman walked that way as a frequent OPF customer...

On the lower range of hearing, great now you have a house band, although it may take a few more doggy treats for Puppy to be onboard as a backup singer ....
