Maybe it's just me, but I don't see JM "fitting in" with those guys.

Sort of like Slash in a CSNY tribute band, although Slash did grow up in Laurel canyon...

No I personally do not think it's you, I am trying to find the logic in this somewhere. I have been following the carer of the dead since 1968 and I can't see this puzzle piece fitting in the puzzle, seems like a total different scene. I will still try to get me a ticket though

While I'm not a Mayer fan per se, I wouldn't count him out for any type of musical excursion.

Several years ago, when I heard he had formed a SRV&DT-esque vehicle to play Blues and Bluesy Rock, I scoffed. Loudly.

I thought of him solely as an acoustic pop star who looked like he had just been given novocaine and Nitrous Oxide when he sang.

Lo and behold, I was wrong...The boy had some Blues chops, and was accepted and welcomed by several of my blues-playing heroes.

As far as playing with the Dead (maybe since this is just a few members of the group, they should be called the Grateful Coma...since they're not quite Dead), I could easily see him fitting in. He's got the chops, and there's no telling what type of material they would play as time and tour goes on.

Either way, I'm not a huge fan of Mayer (and probably never will be), but I'd give it a spin. What's the harm?

Good post! No harm at all. It's always good to broaden your
genres and hone your craft. When I saw him do the intrumental
at Michael Jackson's Funeral I knew that he had a lot of music in
him. I guess he also likes to jam a lot and maybe why he hooked
up with these guys. More power to him!
