don't get it..

Hmmm.... maybe, just maybe, the Fab Four have a greater, more all-encompassing talent than Mr. Bonamassa.

I suspect he'd agree.

cheers!

Bonamassa was never swept away by the 'cute culture psychofans' who continue to relive their lost 'yute' through Beatles music. There's no 'aha I remember what I was doing when I first heard that' or dejavu with his work. Not yet...at least. When Bonamassa was in his 'teens he was playing to an audience which was 20 years or more his senior and still does so today.

I'm a guitar player and I've heard of Joe. I like his playing from the clips I've heard. But I couldn't name one song he wrote or one hit he's had. Maybe he just needs to write catchier songs.

I listen to a college station that actually plays Joe. I'm aware of the toilet commercial radio is in these days. I sometimes think that if Zeppelin got back together and released a new song, it wouldn't get airplay. Not part of the formula.

scary thought

Joe being everywhere? This reminds me of an interview I saw with Phil Collins who left the vocal arena for awhile and returned to more drumming which was a comfort zone he was okay with. He said he came to the decision because he would get into his car, turn on the radio, and for a time his songs seemed to be on every station. Some of us could only dream of being that fortunate, but for Phil it was too much saturation. :D

I think Joe does try a little too hard sometimes, but then again, he grew up in an area with a lot of negativity and not many avenues for success. (I know this from first hand experience, having grown up there the generation before him.) He's worked hard for many years, playing some of the places I had a generation before -- where anything creative might get you a polite yawn at best "and can't you just play that like on AM radio?" So I'm not surprised, knowing some of the background.

But he's earned every bit of it. It's not like he grew up in NY, Chicago or LA, had a wealthy dad and so got to be a "fashion consultant" and TV personality without a single ounce of skill. Nor is it like he just coasts on the talent he had to begin with. I guess I won't complain too much until I get that offer for the new Joe Bonamassa Homie from CNY Credit Card (in blue of course) I Just Have to Get.
