A 300 series 12 string is what I'm looking at. Think it might be a 330. What else can you tell me?

A shop near me has a new model, 1993 Plus, which is a 12 string with 1 3/4" nut, three pups, looks a lot like a 330. I went to the Rickenbacker site and couldn't find it, but I know it exists because it's hanging on the wall at California Vintage Guitars and Amps. New for 2015, so maybe Rickenbacker doesn't keep their website up to date.

The one I was looking at was an early 90's model. '93, I think. A 330 in Fireglow. I think maybe it sold. Haven't seen the ad lately.

The new model with the wide 1 3/4" nut is called 1993 Plus. It's new for this year, so you probably won't find a used one. Here's a link to the shop by me that has one. They don't list a price, just the msrp. If you want to buy it, I can go in and pick it up for you. :D

I see it comes stock with toasters too......definitely worthy of a look-see.

Looks a lot like Pete's own signature 1997PT except for the 12-string bridge and bound sharkfin-inlaid fingerboard & body.

It certainly looks nice, but it seems a tad dear, even for a Rick. And what's up with the MSRP? I thought Rickenbacker's spiel was that they don't have an MSRP and won't sell to vendors who try to put one down?

In the early '70s I had a luthier in Halifax tell me he thought that Rickenbackers in general were crap. Meaning, I think, the materials and construction, and he refused to sell or repair them. He was the only one I heard give such an opinion.

About that video clip...
From 1:39 to 1:42, there's what appears to be a single cutaway guitar with two knobs or switches up top, one knob on the lower horn, a whammy bar, and a smaller pick guard. What is it, and who's playing it?
At 2:03-2:04 it whips by again, apparently behind Paul, which is where George was.

Waiddaminnit.

Ah. They're doing some jiggery-pokery in the film editing. It's one of George's Gretschs, in footage of a different song.
Also, at 2:33, Paul's bass continues to play itself while he scratches his nose. Cool trick that, i'nnit?

Spliced tapes from different performances?

I see Paul made a booboo at 2:20.

He does, doesn't he?

Yup.
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatl ... um#History :
Quote:
The film is not a completely accurate representation of the actual concert performance. The songs "She's a Woman" and "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby" are omitted from the film due to time and likely camera reel change issues (audio of the latter song was released on The Beatles Anthology Volume 2 CD). The audio for the songs that remained went through a heavy post-production process as well. Some songs were treated with overdubs, or even re-recorded entirely, by The Beatles at London's CTS Studios on January 5, 1966, to cover audio problems throughout the concert recording. In addition, the audio for "Twist and Shout" comes from a show at the Hollywood Bowl later on the same tour, and the audio for "Act Naturally" was simply replaced by the studio version of the song (released on the Help! LP in Britain and on the B-side of "Yesterday" in the US), sped up slightly and poorly edited to sync up to the film.
I gather it's a common practise. Probably easier if the band tours with it's own backdrop and everything is placed exactly so on the stages.

Back on topic-ish: Even my wife thought the Ric 330 Fireglo looked pretty. It does indeed.

Dealing with dual truss rods requires much more of a technician. Dual outputs likewise. It wasn't necessarily the Rickenbackers that were crap...

I'm not sure what the radius is on the 6 string Rics, or Fenders, but I know on a 4003, it's a 10" radius, as compared to a 9.5" radius on a Fender bass. The board's radius could have some like, or dis-like for the feel while playing.

I don't know about the basses, but the radius of the neck (12- and 6-string alike) wasn't the problem--it was the width of the neck...too dang narrow for my comfort.

As I said earlier, I like the looks, the sound and the mojo of these axes, but their feel precludes the removal of legal tender from my wallet to acquire one.

I'm precluded by the fact that it appears unlikely that there will be an RI of the old Capri 300 which is the only Rick I'd want to own.

Perhaps this could be the reason some techs dislike them?
I, myself, am not adverse to learning something new.
I've been working on my own guitars my entire life.
IIRC, I believe the one and only time I ever sent a guitar to a tech was the very first time I wanted pickups changed and once I saw the service bill I said, "Screw this, I'll do it myself."
Being naturally mechanically inclined I never once had any fear of tinkering with a guitar and started doing so with my very first guitar which I got at, I believe, age 9.
I don't think there's anything a dual rod, dual jack Ric could intimidate me with.
It's just a matter of spending a little time learning.

GAS seems to have quieted itself for the moment but this Ric thing will bubble up to the surface again, I am certain of it.

Why wait for a RI when you can have the real thing delivered to your door. Just click the "Add to Cart" button and you're set!
