Since we have delved into the Fender Custom Shop creations, I have a bit of info gleaned from the 2 books published on the Fender Custom shop...
But first, for those of us who were fortunate enough to have viewed Alain's Guitar Motel in the past, it is an amazing and I would add painstaking collection of incredibly ornate, subtle and beautiful creations that at times leave you speechless as to the original thought process behind creating each and everyone of those guitars. ( Somehow the word guitar just doesn't justify ).

Anyway, the carved Phoenix Stratocaster was actually a collaboration between Yuri Shishkov and master carver george Amicay.

I would really recommend to all interested to procure the book " The Dream Factory " fender Custom Shop by Tom Wheeler. ISBN # 978-1-4234-3698-0
All of the Custom Shop craftsmen are featured along with some of their creations and out of 591 pages it is well worth the purchase price.
Page 354 features one of Shishkov's creations. It is a hybrid Strat body, Tele neck, Tele neck pup, Bridge HB. 1 volume and 1 tone controls. The pick guard is reminiscent of a precision bass and Jaguar shape. All gold hardware, figured maple with matching pick guard in a cherry sunburst.... Just one of the incredible guitars that come out of the Custom Shop. There is in-depth info on all the principal Custom Shop creators.

There is a previous book on the Fender Custom Shop from 1996 " Fender Custom Shop Guitar Gallery " by Richard Smith .... ISBN # 0-7935-5065-3. There are collector editions of these although I don't think they include a custom shop Strat. (lol).

In lieu of Alain's Guitar Motel reappearance ( Please Sir ) hopefully, those two books illustrate a past of the Custom Shop and the people most responsible for it's success ( hint ) .... :x

Is that guitar you're talking about?

The pickguard is a stock late 1960s Thinline.

It is worth reminding the uninitiated that the distinguishing factor between the website and the books is that the site is a collage of the personal collections of not only Alain, but others of his ilk, who view themselves as the conservators of a cultural phenomenon.

Doc: wink:

Yes, I should have mentioned that also, only thought about it afterwards while in class.
I don't know how many hours or times I clicked on that link to look thru and be amazed at the collections.

When we read some of the less than complimentary threads here, this is a reminder that Fender does / did have an amazing group of people creating these special guitars.
I would like to believe that before it becomes too late, the corporate entity would realize or at the very least consider that without the artistic and creative parts, the whole will not endure.. Food for Thought.. but ..... YMMV

You would think so. Yet, my tech tells me that they are the least cooperative when it comes to providing assistance with questions regarding repairs. :?

YMMV

For a stock instrument, I still like my Arctic White Standard Strat, with a maple neck.

Looks like the '50's Strat I saw at GC yesterday. I liked the neck on that guitar
