That's a tough one, Brad. As you know, the Custom Shop has done a constellation of one-offs, many of which are owned by our member Alainlafrance. Once he gets his Guitarmotel website up and running again we'll have a look at them. In the eight years of the Forum's, the one which impressed me the most was the Shishakov he purchased, built for the Russian market.

My 2011 FSR in Lake Placid Blue - pretty rare as a leftie. I've put a splittable humbucker in the bridge with a push/push tone pot pot to avoid having to get my fingernails under the dial! Looks amazing, and sounds amazing too. Coupled with my Mustang III v2.2 I can get a great range of authentic tones - I don't even get laughed out of blues jams anymore!

I take it you mean this one:

In my humble opinion, Yuriy Shiskov's work is in a different league from "mere" custom shop.

It's known as the Shishakov V1. I dubbed it "The Russian". If you search his posts in archives, around pg 21,22 or earlier begins the quest. At that time it was the only one outside Russia. The story of its acquisition was something of a James Bond and the Lector affair. 8)

@ZZDoc

They're many variations of the Russian Strat, including the aforementioned V1 with the matching pickguard. Some came with matching pickguards and headstocks, while others boasted an aged white pearloid pickguard and aged plastic parts. Pickups were SCNs with gold-plated covers.

In total 10 pieces were made in 2006, available in 4 different finishes.

These Russian Stratocasters were loosely based on the American Deluxe series.

There's no surprise the American Deluxes - especially the transparent teal maple necked models - were best-sellers in the Russian market and this burst of popularity inspired Yuriy to create those one-offs.

Alain was pretty much the maven on this guitar, if you remember his posts back then. The uniqueness of his acquisition was that it was one of the 12 made for Russia and the only one outside of the country.{Thanks to his efforts}

+1

The shot showing him cradling this beauty confirms your thoughts!

Unfortunately Fender stopped importing their products for the Russian market as a result of a US ban in response to the Ukrainian crisis. Very sad news for Russian Fender aficionados.

I went back into archives to find the posts relevant to that acquisition because I knew there were photos of the guitar annexed. He is most likely the owner/conservator of one of the largest private collections of Custom Shop 'art' guitars in the world. You recall he's shared many of them with us. Unfortunately, we do not find Guitarmotel as a functioning site presently. As an aside, I gleaned from reading some of his comments that, unlike the guitar pictured standing on the bench, the pickguard on his guitar is made of wood.

The guitar you're talking about sports a matching painted headstock and an aged white pearloid guard with aged parchment plastic parts though I suspect there were very rare examples from that cherryburst Russian Stratocaster featuring both matching wooden pickguards AND painted headstocks, as well as gold plated knobs and switch tip.

I sent a link to this thread to Alain. Perhaps he will weigh in on it.

Only two series can be called Russian Strat as mentioned on the neck plate
the first one, a series of 10, is like the one show in my caring hands
the second batch made later also in 10 units and also for the russian market only is similar apart that the headstock is painted.
Another batch of 10 but of a darker brown, the ukrainian Strat, has been made only for the ukrainian market.
Never been able to put my hand on one.
The other models are Strats made by Yurii for sale world wide. You can order one if you are patient and wealthy.

The" Koicaster" was made by Todd Krause

That's exactly the guitar I was talking about, a variation of the Russian Strat with matching painted pickguard/headstock and gold plated parts.

The Ukrainian Stratocaster in its present form featured regular black dots lacking off the Custom Shop inlay at the 12th fret.
