There have been many Strats that really struck me as being beautiful, one had a burl walnut body but I can't recall if it was an actual Fender Strat. One beautiful Strat that I know was made by Fender was the British Racing Green Strat that was owned by Forum member and guitar collector Alain LaFrance .This Strat was part of a very limited production of 40 that were made expressly for executives of Jaguar Cars.Alain's Strat was the beautifully rich BRG and it had jaguar profiles on the neck as fretmarkers etc. plus it had brilliant gold hardware. It's been a long time since I saw the guitar, but it was stunningly beautiful, even though I can't remember all the details and inlays that it had.

I still wonder why they made the Jaguar Strat and not a Jaguar Jaguar. Same with the Mustang:

The two companies couldn't make a joint product matching the name of both without diluting their own trademarks?

Anyhow, the Jaguar Strat is certainly pretty. Walnut fretboard?

The Jaguar Strat was a 25 units order from the CEO of Jaguar Cars Ltd who was an absolute fan of the Fender Stratocaster.
it took two years to finalize the project which was never seen completed by the Jaguar Executive who died before.
yes burl walnut for the fretboard

There's a story about Les Paul giving Richie Sambora a pretty white Les Paul Custom for his birthday with hand wound pickups by Les himself to record the album "New Jersey". Some time later after recording the albums "New Jersey and "Stranger In This Town" Richie gave Les the guitar at a Fat Tuesday's gig. I bought it at the Estate Of Les Paul Auction in Beverly Hills a few years back. Same place they sold Leo's #1 Nocaster. I also own Les's own documented copy of the famed Les Paul he gave to Richie with the same hand wound pickups. It's been pretty well played. I do practice on that. The Strat is just too danged new and pretty. LMAO!.......

Wow, really cool story and not only do you have Les' Sambora Strat, but also one of his Les Pauls? Wow, just wow!
Richies early signature Strats are probably some of my most favourite guitars, especially the cherry sunburst one. Big reason why I was drawn to my CS Strat, which is probably even prettier! ;)

Wow, some of those Custom shop guitars are are just unreal....and unplayable.
But I play this one....

It is a Mexican made limited run, and I did a few thing, custom shop pick ups and gold anodized pick guard and tremolo cover with a brass block in the trem.
Plays great and cost less then a grand.

The custom shop heel plate on a MIM is a bit like putting a ///M badge on an entry level BMW, or a GT-R badge on a Nissan Juke. It signals that you're not happy with what you actually have, as evident by wanting to pretend it's something else.

I bough that plate from a e-bay seller that will put your customer serial number on it, but it does not say Fender on it, just that it is custom. And I did quite a bit of work to it, so I felt it deserved it.

But I don't see a Fender Custom Shop neck plate (real or fake) on this instrument. I see a plate denoting an instrument that has been modified or changed radically enough to deserve the title of "Custom".

Seriously, Fender is not the only company or individual to use the terms "Custom" or "Deluxe" (Chevy even used those terms together for a particular model of pickup in the 70's and 80's).

...and Fender isn't the only company to use the chevron-esque symbol (the name of that thing escapes me at the moment) under a logo or a series of words...I believe Cadillac and Corvette both beat them to the punch...

Plus, the owner/poster of this guitar didn't try to present it as a Custom Shop...amongst his first words describing the guitar were "Mexican made". Quit trying to create a sense of false indignation toward other people and their instruments.

Yes, with the modifications and customizations you've performed, the instrument DOES deserve a "Custom" designation...as long as you're not putting a Fender Custom Shop logo on a Non-Fender Custom Shop guitar.

I have customized/modded several of my guitars--some subtly, some radically--and I replaced the neck plates with some custom-etched with my band's logo and the nickname of the guitar...the plates were made by Greasy Groove.

I also placed automobile interior plates/badges that say "Custom" (from the interior of a 1960's-era Pontiac) on two of them...one on the bridge cover ("Ashtray") of my Stratocaster and one just south of the bridge of my Telecaster...maybe not to everyone's taste, but these little things make the instruments a little more unique and "mine"...

I am fairly certain that the open V in combination with the words Custom Shop is a FMIC trademark, and that the only real reason to use that combination is to mimic the logo.

Hmm, would this not also apply to nuts, bridges, trem blocks, tuners, strings, etc, etc, etc? All things that we might not be happy with, but many if not most of us have had our share of "upgrades" and we definately are not pretending it's something else. After all, his guitar is still a genuine Fender, albeit made in Mexico. And not once did he try to convince us otherwise

For my money the dealer event select I'd the most beautiful. Everyone ask me if it was custom. I got it from willcut guitars and have never seen one since. You can't beat the inlay ed fretboard or the quilted top. Image

Most beautiful? A white-on-white, played upside down by the incomparable Mr. Hendrix. April 11th, 1969 in Raleigh's tiny Dorton Arena. Left an impression on a raw 14-year-old boy; an impression that still lingers today.
