This SG Std. does have a nice clean tone to it. The Humbuckings are wrapped really well, and the Mahogany body, and neck don't hurt either. Image

It looks like it has a nice grain to it. 8)

That will be interesting to see that one when you get it.

From what it looks like too, the neck appears to be quarter sawn.
I had the choice of this one, or another. I liked the grain in the body, and it weighs 7.10 pounds.
The Walnut I have coming in has a grain I like better than the other three, and weighs in at 7.10 pounds as well.

The Walnut SG Std. showed up at 9:30 this morning. I haven't had any time to do anything but check it out, and put it back in the case.

The strings, and SG cover showed up later today. They're on the Walnut now. Pics tomorrow.

Looks like a nice combo. Sometimes, we do wind up going back to where we started, even for awhile. I have on occasion.

I like the feel of Flats, but the Nylons I play are Rounds. So I guess Rounds work for me.

That's true, they are rounds with the tape wrapped around them. Hey, maybe I can maybe make my own by wrapping electrical tape around my rounds. :P Yeah, that will work, or maybe not. :P

The old time Nylons I used in 1969/1970, were wrapped with a thin foam, held on by black electrical tape. The really sucked. The tape would actually start to un wind as you were playing them. The sound was good. They just fell apart.

Wow, and I thought I was making a joke. :P That's good that they figured out how to make those right, then.

You were actually right on about the black electrical tape. These new ones are amazing compared to the old tapewounds.

That's interesting they actually attempted that. I wonder if someone just came up with that in an attempt for an electric bass to have a more "upright bass sound," as it were?

I would have to guess that was the attempt as you said to get that "upright bass sound".

I named it "Electric Lady". I think Felix may have liked this bass. The Heritage Cherry is the "Mountain", from 1969. The name somewhat carries on a dream from then.

You know Paul, I feel good about acquiring these two. If for no other reason the Heritage Cherry is a reminder of good times, in a 60's kinda' way. And the Walnut, I just like it.

I might be going back to using flatwounds, or at least getting some to put on the Precision Bass. I've been playing a lot on my violin bass, which has the flats on it, and I do like that tonality they have. Besides, if I want to do some dub reggae type sounds, I don't think rounds would work as well for that bass heavy sound. I also know flats do real well on Precision Basses, anyway.
