That's an interesting development. What's the story with that?

Long scales aren't playing to well with me anymore. The short scale Mustang kinda' made that more evident. I saw that Gibson was turning out 2018 models of both Thunderbirds, and SG Std.'s. Pretty much it, going full circle with the Gibson where I started from. I'm playing the Mustang PJ a lot. I'd rather have an SG Std. short scale backing up the Mustang. Plus, I just love the 60's body design of the SG Std. Les Paul didn't like the SG body, but I sure do. The Humbuckings do well through a 2X12 cab also.

Gibson is back to using the old style guitar body shaped case. It does look better than the case the 2015 models came in from the factory.

I see your point, especially if you're more comfortable playing on the short scale Mustang. The short scales are a lot easier to play, too. I know that from playing on the violin bass, which has almost a guitar neck on it, size wise. I'll bet you could get a pretty good Jack Bruce sound with that setup, too.

I have to go over to their site and check that thing out.

The SG is a no brainer. Size/scale, neck, sound, optional robotic tuners, weight, reputation, and Gibby’s best seller.

I would add it to my arsenal; however, only after a Les P, Gretsch, and a Tele. Aw, what am I saying? They’re all good but different.

I do think Strat is more beautiful. Judging by the lack of SG’s in promotional art, that may be the case.

Mind you, there are many beautiful guitars out there that meet or beat Strat for looks and that includes vintage and newcomers, I just think Strat stands the test of time, but with SG thousands can’t be wrong. YMMV

Judging by your past choices, Glenn, I’ll toast a bowl of Jello to ya. Looking forward to the photo(s).

I should have it in on Tuesday the 7th. I'll bore you with a few pics. I backed a good number of lead players on a Gibson EB0 back then. A lot of them played SG's.

There's always room for Jello. :P

And apparently Gibson SG Std.'s.

Kind of a random question, but do you know what kind of strings Gibson uses for those? They used to have their own brand of strings years ago, but it seems like they only make them for their guitars, and not have them for the basses anymore.

From the size of the strings, they could be D'Addario made for Gibson. The SG Std. with nylons.

Now that I think about it, I remember something being mentioned about Cleartone strings a while back, but who knows? D'Addario is probably most likely, since they are so common to use. I think Ibanez uses them, but I know Schecter uses Ernie Ball strings. I doubt Gibson uses Ernie Balls, since they just now came out with short scale sets.

Nice bass, by the way. 8)
