The funny thing is I've typically paid more attention to the electronics, such as amplification and speakers, than the differences in wood tonality. I could have a bass made out of cardboard and if I like what I'm hearing through the amp, I'm cool. :P I suppose acoustic instruments are probably more picky with that sort of thing, since you aren't typically reliant on your sound being transmitted electronically.

Pretty much what I was saying, Paul. The guitar, amp, and everything in between can do wonders when teamed together regardless of tone wood, more or less, acoustics being the exception.

I'm back with an Olympic White Mustang PJ, along with my Jazz, and Precision. I think it's one of the better short scales on the market.

I like the matching up with the amp setup myself. For me, it's one of the finer short scale basses. As much as I liked the Gibson SG Std.'s, they don't stack up to the Fender Mustang PJ. Eight pounds is easy on the neck, and shoulders too.

How's the neck thickness compare to the Jazz neck?

It's a C shape neck, the same as an MIM Standard Jazz. To me it feels like a short Jazz. The nut is a 1.5", the radius is 9.5". 19 Medium Jumbo Frets. A 30" neck. A short Jazz.

So not much different other than being shorter?

Shorter, and the body configuration. But like I said, for me it feels, and plays like a short Jazz.

You know, I think they actually made a short scale Jazz, but I think it was pretty much a fly by night thing, or was around very briefly.

I never saw one, but I believe they did have one at one time.

I think it came out 8 to 10 years ago, maybe a few years earlier than that. I'd have to do a search to find out. I'm sure there's something online out there.

Maybe a Gibson SG Std. Heritage Cherry.

YES!
