Speaking of Traynor, I don't even know where you can get them, other than some used listings at Guitar Center or eBay. I found some random dealers in my state and a couple states over, like Massachusetts, but nothing really within 25 miles. I remember they use to sell them online at Musician's Friend, and related, a few years ago, or so. Before that, there was Yorkville, which I do remember even seeing in a local store in Florida, way back in the day. I always liked their 400 watt combo with the 15" speaker.

I had that Traynor Dynabass Combo. It was right at the time I made the mistake of getting into the Marshall amps. I should've stayed with the Traynor, far better quality, and better sounds.

I know what you mean. I've made that mistake a few times, myself.

I seen some listings for new Traynor's around, but I don't remember the locations. The Traynor I had was a real pounding combo. A lot better than Ampeg Combo's.

Interesting that you’ve seen them around, Glenn. I searched the Net with no success Stateside other than places that say not available or something to that effect. They may be, however, as I’m sure I didn’t cover all the bases.

Yorkville Sound (as you mentioned Paul) may be the answer. Wherever Yorkville has their related gear and other brands, Traynor may not be far out of reach. If you haven’t read these Wikis you might find them interesting.

There is a Fender connection. Long and McQuade is associated with Yorkville Sound’s Traynor and, along with my Strat and Mustang IV, they sell a lot of Fender amongst the Traynors. :D

Wasn't Traynor essentially Long & McQuade's house brand? I suppose they're still the one play you can order them online. I wonder what the shipping costs would even be coming from Canada?

Try these locations:
http://traynoramps.com/dealers/north_american_dealers

You’ll need to type in the location you want like Providence Rhode Island, New York or whatever location you choose. At the bottom of that page you’ll see listings, although I can’t say they are current for your search. I found 3 possible listings in your state.

You’ll also find it available here:
https://www.long-mcquade.com/location/N ... aint_John/
It’s probably your best bet for the closest and cheapest shipping location from Canada to your location Paul. Our dollar is artificially weak for export at the moment so you might find that offsets your costs and depending on the equipment it may have fair trade value, as some is Canadian and some is offshore or both.

I think Traynor/Yorkville goes through an American Distributor in NY state?

Well, yes and no.

This of course could be beneficial having an American division. Thanks, for bringing it to our attention, Mr. Nylon.

Yorkville Sound USA

4625 Witmer Industrial Estate
Niagara Falls, NY
USA 14305
Phone (716) 297-2920
Fax (716) 297-3689

Pretty much how most things are up here. Often distribution can get confoosing and lost in the shuffle. This one is nice and simple. :D

Out of curiosity, I typed in the directions to that location from where I live, and it would take approximately a little over 9 hours with traffic, if I left now, or 7 hours and 45 minutes without traffic, to get there. Of course, I'd also need a passport, because they'd probably not let me in the country without one. Canada is certainly a lot closer to get to than Florida is.

That makes for a day trip, not bad. Did you look up the stores in your state, Paul? If you calculate the Canadian cost versus your local cost, you might be able to cut a deal nearby; but, not always as the distribution and dealers’ costs will have some bearing. Ya never know until you try.

Passports are used here for border shopping too.

Most times I shop from the U.S. when I don’t have the variety to choose from here. For example, I bought both a CD recorder and a cassette deck from my standby J&R (NY) after they no longer sold in Canada. Otherwise, there are advantages on both sides of the border. Sometimes we have something that can’t be found elsewhere.

One has to be careful cross border shopping because the cost can escalate easily to where it becomes prohibitive. I always get the duty and taxes confirmed. At other times GAS takes over.
Fortunately, I got in on much of my American bought accessories (about 4 years ago) when our dollar was worth about $1.25 American. Timing is everything. I’m not complaining though - it’s too crazy to think that the money changers will change. :x

You usually can't but buy directly from a distributor, but you can call Yorkville Sound USA, to have them give you the names of dealers in the area for Traynor Amps.

Yup. For the most part that is true. A lot of times that goes with the service industries for a variety of reasons.

Exceptions do occur, however. I’ve bought from stores that are distributors, and recently I got an HK speaker from a distributor who retailed. Fender has manufacturing, distributing, and retail.

Sometimes you just get lucky connecting the dots.

I found one dealer that's within 25 miles in some place called Fairhaven, Massachusetts, which I've never even been to, which I recall. The rest are further out in various places. There was a place down in Florida that sold gear online, like Guitar Center, that carried Yorkville/Traynor, as well as Godin. I have looked at the site in years, if it even still exists. I think it was called something like Musician's Warehouse, or one of those type names. It's just funny how the brand just seemed to have disappeared in the background, compared to 10 or 20 years ago, or os that just my imagination?

Just a quick follow up on why one would pay for cross border purchases even as exchange rates, duty, shipping, and taxes increase at crazy amounts.

Example:

I ordered 6 20 foot guitar cables on a one day sale. (I had one already from the same company along with multiple XLRs).

Their Price: $34.99. Amn.

My total payment all in after Canadian exchange rate, duty, shipping, and taxes: $72.86 Cdn.!

Crazy huh?

Not until you see the same deal on the same company’s Canadian/Amazon website days later at:
$210.87 Canadian (taxes in) with free shipping.

A no brainer IMHO. :D
Caution: $97.35 (before tax) has also been the Amazon shown price for 1 of the same cables seemingly from the same company and another? I guess I did okay with my six $100 cables.
