Just as nice. I still haven't had the chance to play it. It's really put together well. Just a really nice bass.

This one was created in March of 2017. I really like the Sea Foam Pearl finish on it. The MIM Fenders are some top flight basses. Image

That baby definitely has that California Beach vibe and I agree that the MIMs have some great axes.

I'm liking some of the MIM's, better than some of the MIA basses.

Rumour has it that happens af times. I don't think any one country has the ownership of mojo. I remember having an inexpensive mahogany nylon string Framus with one string as a kid. But, man oh man did that little German guitar have mojo. :D

Bill Wyman had a Framus hollow-body bass during the early part of the Rolling Stones. He seemed to do well with that bass for a long time. I've done pretty good with my Squiers and violin bass. Sure, I'd love to have an original Precision bass, or a Hofner, but I don't have that kind of money. Maybe if I won the lottery, or something like the music starts to take off. Sometimes, you can get lucky and not have to spend a lot to get something pretty decent to play on. You can always modify things, too.

I hear ya Paul. Like all manufacturers, the business model usually includes economical entry levels. Especially, in the 60s in the days when American guitars were less available in Europe, Framus was popular with the military who could leave their inexpensive acoustics on the bunk for the next guy. That's how I got mine.

That doesn't mean that everyone's entry levels are inexpensive or that their top level is where it is crazy goofy.

One thing for sure, with exceptions (usually because of cost cutting), most of today's gear is an improvement - sound aside by preference or marketing or perception.

There are some vintage guitars that I passed by in my drummer days that I'd love to have at the original price, and I'd love some new ones for less than today's price.

Then again, my age and lack of someone close to pass it down to makes me wonder if, for me, the purchase is worth it. Maybe that axe on the wall still holds some worth, but less than in the past when I was younger.

After all, just like upgrading cameras, squeezing the best out of an instrument can reveal wonders; but, it starts with a suitable instrument.

GAS does have it's influence though.

I once drove a '57 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. It was a beauty in looks and performance; however, it did 60 miles an hour the same as the little economy car that passed me.

I have to say where there's a massive improvement in today's gear compared to the past (not to knock anything in the past, because that has it's own merits,) is bass amplification. I mean to where they weigh only a few pounds, yet can go up to 1000 watts or so, my Orange amp, being an example. Of course, it's subject to debate whether one prefers those over some behemoth from the 60's, which can also be cool, albeit a lot more difficult to move around. But the fact that these things even exist, is something. Maybe someone that was born after 2000 would take it for granted, because that's all they'd know, but then again, there's probably things that I even take for granted that weren't around before 1971, that you all would remember, being from a previous generation, and so on and so forth.

Great observation on the amps, Paul. I'm going out on a limb here to say that some pretty good sound can come from some small speakers, but generally, especially bass wise, one would want to move more air for a variety of reasons not only pertaining to volume. The one thing, as you know, that works in favour of bass is that it is non directional so there is an advantage there that has been translated to the ability to get some pretty decent bass even from smaller speakers. Others will say go big or go home. I think, aside from the image, certain speakers have a historical quality that may be desired. That must be the case because empty cabs do a pretty good job of enhancing the image especially when they have a light show within them.

I don't want to sound like an old fuddy duddy but, even having had eight different hi fI systems over the years, I had the opportunity to work on an old classic Wurlitzer juke box. and there's some serious mojo there. Average tube amp, crappy tracking, and heavy duty stylus pressure should have ruled it out; but, there it was - the larger than life sound from the speaker in all its glory.

Go figure.

Speaking of speakers you might want to consider this bubble speaker, or others like it, for a cab. You'll need a BIG wallet though, and a big cab. :P

I always thought those old Wurlitzers were pretty cool. Not cheap, if you want to collect them, though.

Just to throw a wrench into the small speaker amp scenario, I went with a Bassman 115 Neo cab today. Powered by a Bassman 500 head. My Jazz, and Precision sounds fine through it. I'm not playing through 10's at this time.

Was it signed by Dick Dale who got the first 15"? :P

That's what I would have done, if I was going to get another Fender amp, since they don't offer the 500 combo with a 15" format.

That's the way I worked it out also Paul. I still have 350 watts, like the Rumble 500C had, but it's a Neo 15", that I can change heads if I care too also.
