No, I really don't know.

I've been going back to my Squier Custom Tele a lot this past week or so, besides the Jazz and now a P Bass. So it looks like I'm back with Fender, albeit Squier, because I don't have a Fender budget. I've been putting some guitar time in, besides bass and working on some song ideas with that. You know, some chords thrown together, see if anything comes out of it.

My daughter had a Squier Strat that played nice.

They seem to make pretty decent stuff. Of course, you might get a lemon here and there, like anything else, but for the money, it seems to be pretty spot on. I've only had one bad instance with them, with the Squier Bass VI, but to be fair, that was when the model first came out and I think they rushed a few things through quality control, maybe because orders were backlogged or something. If I get the money to do so, I'd like to give one of those Bass VI's another shot, since the Schecter Ultra VI is now gone. I kind of like playing on that more than the Tele, as far as guitar type instruments go. It's sort of an in between instrument of guitar and bass, I think. I really don't know what to hell to call that thing.

Yep! I can second that one Paul. After I got to a point with the Am. Pro. Fretless, I'm not to sure I'd consider it worth the price tag it had on it. Ya' really can't tell anymore.

Yeah, I understand about that. Those are about 3 or 4 times the price point of what I'm dealing with.

Too bad the quality in some of the higher priced basses, don't equal their price.

That's for sure. You could understand that could happen with something like a Squier, or some off-brand copy, but you're not dropping over a grand into it to start with. You'd think at that price point, you would get better than that.

You know that's right! 8) At least I can say my Am. Std. is a good player.

I'd say it is. Out of curiosity (and I don't remember if you said you did,) have you tried out the fretted version of the American Pro version? I was curious to see if that fared any better, as far as the quality is.

No Paul, I haven't been able to find one locally to try out. It's almost like the local shops want to lay out the money to get one in. Maybe afraid it won't move to quickly.

You're probably right. They aren't exactly pocket change.

Speaking of going back to a bass, I'm going to do something kind of radical for me, or something that I've never done, which I do have lay down a bass track for a song that's going to be on my girlfriend's next EP, and I decided that I'm going to use the hollow-body, the P Bass, and maybe the Jazz Bass (if it behaves with the jack issue-I do need to get that fixed,) and see which one will sound the best for that. It's kind of an experiment, since I've only ever used one bass, but then again, I didn't have these before. Obviously, they each sound totally different, so I think that should be interesting to see how much. I've never recorded with the hollow-body with the flats installed, so I'm curious to see how that sounds, too. If I'll get that classic 60's/British Invasion kind of sound.

Very interesting, Paul. I would think you would get that British Invasion sound with you Violin Bass. That jack problem you may be still having on your Jazz, should really be pretty simple to remedy. You should have a great ensemble of sounds, with the three basses you have now.

The violin bass has the flats on it well broken in, which gives it that particular tone, I think. The flats on the Jazz are broken in, as well. It's funny, sometimes I sound almost like I'm playing fretless with that bass. It almost has that tonality with it, with the way I can bend and slide on the strings. I'm sure the jack shouldn't be too difficult to get fixed, and hopefully not expensive. I just have to find someone to do it, since I don't know how, and I don't have the tools to do so. It would be easier to have someone pro do it, then at least I know it's done right. After that, I have two more basses with the same issue. I'm still deciding on what I want to do with the P Bass, to where if I want to put flats on it, or not. I've been doing pretty well with the rounds on it, so I'll have to see. Knowing me, I'll probably wind up putting flats on it, eventually.

There's nothing wrong with Flats on all your basses. Like I've said before, if I wasn't using Nylons, Flats would be on my Jazz.
