I actually spent a 1/2 hour or so playing around with my Peavey Zodiac bass through my Rumble amp. You know, the one that has that A string buzz that I can't figure out to get rid of. I did try taking the tuning key apart and putting it back together (something that was suggested on another forum a while back,) but it didn't do anything. I suppose the good news is I have noticed the buzz isn't as prominent as it use to be (you can still hear it, but it's barely there,) and I didn't even hear it through the amp. Although, the bass put out a lot of hum, unless I touched the knobs on it, but that could be the crappy outlet in the office with the amp and not a grounding issue with the bass itself. I'll have to test another bass, or plug it into the Orange stack to see if it still does that. I also have heavier gauged flatwound strings on it, which I'd like to swap out for some lighter ones. Who knows, maybe that might help with the issue? I might also go back to roundwound strings, too.

Since I have decided to try and sell the Schecters, I've been playing a lot of the Squier Jazz Bass, and of course, the violin bass. I have the Squier in the office with me, so I can plug it in. Yeah, it does have a short in it, but if I'm careful and not knock the cable around, it's been behaving. Consequently, I realized the Peavey does have a grounding issue (I mentioned it had some hum in my previous post,) because the Squier or the violin bass (I actually plugged it into the amp for the first time in ages,) has that issue. I don't know what to do about that. Maybe I'll just smash the SOB and be done with it. I'm joking, of course. :P

Another thing I've been doing, that I haven't done in a long time, is I started playing my Telecaster again. I've been messing around with some chord progression for a song idea, but nothing too extensive, just getting used to playing a guitar again.

By the way, the Squier Jazz sounds amazing through the Fender amp. It's funny how I managed to come back to that and like it over the Schecter. The Schecter is a good bass, but it wound up not really being for me anymore. I'm hoping it will sell, so I can get another Squier Jazz. I can't afford a Fender, not with the money I'm selling the Schecter for, and I don't really want to by a used one. Now I have to decide on which model I want to get. There are two I have in mind.

It's tough to sell one, isn't it.

Yeah, I know. Although, we have got an interest from someone about the Ultra VI.

Do you think they may buy it?

Yeah, we got a buy for the Ultra VI. Now all I have to do is sell the Diamond J Bass and I'll be all set with that. After that, I'll have to decide which Squier I want to get. Pretty sure it's going to be a Jazz, so it comes down to maybe these: Image Image

I got the pics off the web, since I couldn't copy the pic on the Fender product page, but I'll most likely order them directly from Fender, since you can.

Either one of those look super. I guess it just comes down to the Maple, or the Rosewood board.

Yeah, although I think I'm leaning towards the one with the rosewood, since it has a more 60's feel, which works well with our psychedelic side project. Plus, it's $50 cheaper, unless they decide to jack up the price of the rosewood board Squiers, like they did the Fenders, which so far, they haven't. Then again, I don't have a maple board bass and those block inlays are pretty snazzy looking, I think. It's a tough decision, but I won't probably be able to do anything until the Diamond J Bass sells. I'll use the cash to buy it. That's why I'm shopping for Squier instead of Fender (although, I do like them, anyway,) because I won't have enough money to buy one.

At least you seem to be going in the direction you prefer. That's a good start.

I'm playing the Am. Std Jazz as the lone ranger now. I sold off the Fretless a few days ago, as I wasn't being played enough to justify keeping it. In a way I was a bit put off by the rough tool marks that were embedded in the Fret Board of it. I never had this issue with Am. Std.'s. Image

That's too bad about the fretless. If you're not digging it, there's no point in holding on to it. That's why I'm trying to sell the Schecter Diamond J Bass and already sold the Ultra VI. I just wish I had the luck you do for wheeling and dealing in moving gear, although we actually got a Reverb.com account, so maybe that will work (it did with the Ultra VI) and not deal with the local Craigslist bull.

By the way, I was playing the Ultra VI a bit (one last time, I suppose before it's gone,) and I do like the way that plays over my Tele (which I also have been playing a lot of lately,) so I'm hoping down the road I can get a Squier Bass VI to replace it. I did have a bad lemon the first time around, but that's when they first came out, and I haven't heard anything else going wrong, and they are still making them, so I'd like to give it another go. Besides, they have one in Olympic White with the tort pick guard, which would match the Jazz bass that I want to get. I think you've been rubbing off on me with the Olympic White finishes you often have that look pretty damned good. :P It's a great looking finish, and I already have two Squiers in sunburst with the Tele and the Jazz.

I think Olympic White is a great Fender Finish.
The area I reside in some what lucrative, that helps. Some luck in it of course, but I've been making connections in the area since 1968. Some every day players, and some pretty up there players. It all kinda works together. When ever I went anywhere, I always told myself, you never know who you may meet, or come in contact with. Accidental meetings were the coolest.

I imagine that all helps. I will say one thing, when I did live in St. Petersburg, I didn't have any trouble selling gear, although that was 15 to 30 years ago and I often put stuff on consignment at Bringe Music Center, which I also bought stuff on layaway. They take a cut, but then again I got a lot of good deals from them, too. It all worked out. As far as I know, I think they are still in business.

That sounds like a great place. I used to really like going into shops like that. I spent more time looking at bass amps, than the the basses though.
