That sounds interesting. Do you have any pics of it?

I'd like to see that one myself.

Well, I'm back to playing the Schecter Jazz again. I'm going to have to get my hollow-body violin bass fixed. For some damned inexplicable reason, (maybe it had something to do with changing the strings and maybe the weather,) the bass buzzes really bad and almost frets out on the 1st fret on each string of the bass, but not on the others. As far as I can tell, the neck looks pretty straight, so I don't know what to make of that. It didn't do it before, that's for sure. :( At least I know someone that could help me get these fixed. Now I'm down to one fully functioning bass, but at least the ones that have the shorts will be an easy fix. Maybe this can be fixed by tweaking the truss rod, but I've never messed with a hollow-body, so I'm going to see if he can fix that. He was also Vernon Reid's guitar tech, so perhaps so.

A good tech is a valuable friend indeed. Tell that bass problem to buzz off.

I actually have an opposite story to tell.
For some time now my number one, the guitar that once perfectly fit the title of this thread, my '98 AD Strat, has been largely ignored.
So has has my 2000 AD Tele.
I hardly play either of them anymore when they once were my two main guitars.

Now I find myself playing three guitars almost exclusively.
My Koa-Top Lite Ash Strat (pictured below) has three Fat 50s and the Kinman K9 harness which gives me the option to get a Tele-like sound by using the bridge and neck pups together.
My HSH Strat Partsocaster (also K9 equipped) has pretty much eliminated my need for any other humbucker guitars and is pretty much my main axe now.
The Ric 660 has turned out to be such a unique sounding guitar that I just keep finding more and more uses for it as I get to know it better.
Of the three, I guess the Partsocaster is the one I keep going back to the most.

How many guitars do you have?

Not that many.
I used to have quite a few more.

At present I've got:
2 Taylors (acoustic)
2 Jazz
3 Strat
1 Tele
1 Ric
1 LP

When I find I never play a guitar I usually sell it off.
It gives me pause, though, to sell these off.
The AD Strat because it was my "go to" guitar for so many years and I wonder if I'm just in a phase right now.
The Tele because I'm down to only one and have been for a little while now.

The LP is actually the least played guitar of the lot.
It's pretty much just taking up space.
I've completely lost my appetite for all things Gibson.
I started noticing it about 4 or 5 years ago.
Up until a couple weeks ago, the only time I touched the LP was to dust it or move it out of the way when vacuuming.
It's in its case now, all spit polished and awaiting an improvement in the price of oil.

That happens. Tastes can change, but then you might go back again. That's when you usually regret getting rid of something. There's probably no one around here that hasn't at one time or another. The only reason I've been sticking to one bass at the moment is because it's the only one that's functional right now. I'm hoping to get that rectified pretty soon. It's all mostly minor repairs with a short in the jack, etc. I just don't know how to do that, myself. I now know someone who can help with that, though.

On some of the electric's the jack can be one of the easier things to change out. Soldering though is still an important part of the repairs.

With the right soldering iron you can minimized your FUBARs.
They don't come cheap but the modern hi-tech irons heat the work very, very quickly and only get to a certain maximum temperature. It really helps to keep you from cooking things into oblivion. The iron heats the lug and the wire so quickly that you have more than enough time to wet the joint with solder and get the heck out of there before the heat has enough time to transfer into the "cookable" parts of a component. Your total joule input is way less.

A couple years ago I did some mental gymnastics and found my way clear to justifying the purchase of a Hakko 888d and I'm glad I did. It has revolutionized my soldering and breathed new life into my courage at attempting repairs. Very confidence inspiring. You have to do a little studying to know your iron and your solder but it's worth it.

I missed this post Paul. I think you need to reposition the bridge. Violin style basses can get of position easily.

I'm back with another Olympic White, Mustang PJ. I just wandered into a local GC, and they had a new, untouched by little hands one, way up on top of the wall. It still had the tape on the pups, and the tape on the tuning keys.

The call of GAS was in your subconscious, thus you somehow found your self wandering into the Guitar Center. See how it does? :P

That takes short scale strings, right? It's not one of those annoying deals to where you have to use medium scale strings, is it?

It uses short scales, and that's somewhat of a limited supply in local stores. On line GC is the way for me to acquire the ETB92S Nylons.
