Is that what you were saying with the strings lined up too close to the edge of the fretboard?

Yeah,........ that's about it. The damn G string can go off the board, that's how low the G string sits. Pretty far off of the alignment of the pole on the pup for it also.

I wonder how much of an issue that is with them? I know you told me the last one you had didn't have that issue.

The newer ones I've seen, looked ok. They may have been a batch of poor cut nuts on them. I'd still want to hold the Ric in my hand before dropping the Buckeroos on one.

I wouldn't blame you at that price point.

The newer Fender Elites are up there with the 4003 Rics.

No, they're up there. Lucky for me, I'm not crazy about Active mode basses.

I got mixed feeling about them, mainly because I'm a lazy bastard who hates messing with batteries. Even more so when I have to unscrew a plate to get to them. :P

And you better make sure you put fresh ones in before a gig, otherwise you know that thing will decide to crap out on you during said gig. It's one of the rules of the road. :P

Well, it looks like my Squier Jazz I won't be going back to for some time, it seems. It shorted out last night when going through the Fender amp. I know it wasn't the cables, because the violin bass was working through the same set up. It went totally dead, no sound at all. I don't know what the hell happened there. It never has been gigged, or even left the house. In fact, mostly has been sitting around mostly for the three years I've had it.

Your Jazz is strange, just cutting out like that. The first thing I would check, would be the output jack on the Jazz.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I'll try some contact cleaner, then see what happens after that. Maybe it corroded somehow. It's not rusty on the outside at all. Mostly, it's been sitting in the house, but the house isn't climate controlled. It gets hot and humid during the summer, and cold and dry during the winter. We also are right down the road from the Atlantic Ocean. There's a beach like a 1/4 mile away. I can walk to it quite easily.

I was thinking the jack may have snapped off.

You mean the wiring in the inside? Yeah, that could be possible. I've had a jack corrode on me in Florida and some dude I was in a band with fixed it so I could play the bass. Lucky for me, because I only had that bass to play with. I didn't have the gear I have now. That's one thing I can say I'm fortunate for these days.
