This EB-0 isn't a get back to. The style is definitely my favorite I did get back to. It is odd though how Epi is possibly dropping SG / EB style basses. Just me though.

That is strange about that with the Epiphone models. Even the Thunderbird bass wasn't listed there, besides the EB models. I thought if anything, those were the ones that sold the most, but I could be wrong.

Speaking of getting back to instruments, I played on the Peavey Zodiac bass for a couple of hours, trying to get used to a long scale neck again, the other day. It wasn't bad, but I think it needs a better set up, or some work done to it. I've been playing on short scales for at least two years now, so that's a bit of an adjustment to get used to that neck on it, especially sitting down. Maybe with a better set up, that might help, as well.

Strange you mentioned a better setup at this time, Paul. I was just reading that Long & McQuade here, upon request, sends the axes out to Toronto for a Plek job.

https://www.long-mcquade.com/blog/165/P ... CAN-BE.htm

Not having talked to anyone that took up that proposal, I don’t know how much is hype and how much is beneficial; although, I can see merits in it. At least one would narrow down if expected improvement would even be possible.

Didn't you sell yours a while ago and then bought another one? That's what I was referring to.

I know what you meant. It was the EB-3, and I did it with an Epi Viola as well. The EB-0 is the first Epi EB-0 I've acquired.

The Thunderbird Vintage PRO, ($699.00), is still listed in the Original Collection. I guess the EB-0 wasn't original enough for them.

You may have gotten very comfortable playing short scales. That can take a bit of an adjustment on your part, and not an adjustment on the bass. I didn't think I'd be playing so well on a short scale again. But the 1.50" nut, and 12" radius fretboard is just fine. Image

Oh yeah, I see that they still have that particular Thunderbird model there. I must have missed that when I looked before. That's the one that also has the Gibson pickups in it, from what I've read. I guess they must have gotten rid of the other three Thunderbird models they had, or so it seems. I've briefly played on the cheapest Thunderbird model they had, with the bolt on neck, back when I got the Peavey, and also when I played on one of those Epiphone EB-0 basses. I thought it had a nice feeling neck, and quite playable, despite the body shape that I wasn't used to playing on. I was on my way out of the shop, so unfortunately I didn't have the time to really play on it, or even plug it in.

I am quite used to the short scale, especially playing on the Ibanez, but I don't know if it's something I want to keep doing down the road, although for right now, it's my main bass. The main reason I even got one was because of the violin bass, which I've barely even played recently. Maybe I should actually try plugging that one in the next time I plug into the Ampeg and do some jamming. It's been a long time since I've done that with that bass.

And then there is this one:

Sounds like Surf is up:

Of course, there have been and are several Fender Bass VI versions and that includes Custom ones that will set you back about 5 to 6 grand more or less.

Mind you, to spend even more you can always buy an original from ‘61 / ‘62 or this one:

Definitely, not Carole Kaye, eh wot?

A very cool bass guitar IMHO.

Yeah, I love that thing. We actually had that Squier version for about 5 minutes, but had to return it, because it arrived with a screwed up neck, and wasn't playable. QC dropped the ball on that one. That was a bummer, there. Still, I wouldn't mind another one someday down the road, if possible. I could really get a lot of use out of it, considering I have done double duty with bass and guitar. That's kind of like both in one instrument.

Jack used a Fender VI for some of Cream's songs. "Strange Brew" was one that he played the VI on.

I was thinking, just thinking, because I have some haveta gets and wanna gets, that it’s prolly a pretty good fit for me too as you said, Paul about the guitar association. That sucks if you really liked the VI. Did you compare a Squier with the Fender? How was the weight? TIA

I was impressed at the Squire’s tone (amp and whatnot considered). That would be good enough for my purpose, and allow for some other stuff I’m keeping an eye out for.

That groovy VI of Jack’s is a great endorsement. I wonder where it is today.

Some pretty good videos out there on both the Fender and Squire VIs and, if one’s lucky to find one that speaks to ya it could be a good grab. I’m definitely going to try one if not for purchase it’ll be fun to see if I can play it. I think the colour would be my only concern.

I've never even seen a Fender version in person, much less ever try one out. The weight wasn't too heavy on it at all, from what I remember, but I'm also used to playing a lot of different bass guitars over the years, more so than any guitars, so I'm basing that on that. We wound up getting a Schecter version of that 6-string bass after sending that one back, but we wound up selling it after a while, since it wasn't being used at the time, and need cash for something else. I did post pics of that one on here years ago. Who knows if they are still there, since they've changed the site around, and a lot of those pics won't show anymore, unless you use a specific service, like Imgur.

Now this is gonna sound funny, but whatta ya think, Paul and all? Being that you play bass most often, would you think the VI is a good addition in your case or in my case? How about in our cases?

Would you consider latching onto one again (all things being equal)?

Then there is the amp to consider. Bass or guitar optimized one? Maybe, digital? Maybe, not?

Decisions, huh? Aw, what the heck. Throw in a pedal or three.
I haven’t looked, but maybe a synthed axe as with Roland’s Fender and others would do it. I’m sure price would be restrictive at the Squire pricing.

Jack's VI was usually playing through full Marshall, or Sunn Stacks. So his sound in songs wasn't as representative as most players would play a VI through. A Squier VI, or Fender VI does seem to be suited too big amps with a fair amount of power, to get the full sonics of it. Jack used Danelectro long horn basses in the studio a fair amount of the time. Live though, the Gibson seemed to be the howitzer of choice. You couldn't hear the difference from a Gibson bass, to any other for the volumes Cream performed at.
