I can see where it would be a great amp to spare the rough road life for it.
You do need to have some gear that will be substantial for what ever possibly comes along. Myself, no. I'm not even looking for, or doing anymore studio work.

Yeah, I want to keep it in the shape it's in. That's the one risk of gigging something, besides the potential of getting stolen, is it can get banged up, even if you're normally careful. At least there are a lot of options out there for guitar amps, if need be. I'm not even sure if I'm going to really be doing that, or not, anyway. Sometimes it seems like I am, and other times it doesn't. I know bass is the definite thing, at least. Personally, I'd rather just stick to that, but sometimes you might need to help out with other things, if you can.

Well, if you ever did need to, or find yourself doing any studio stuff, you still have a great amp to do that with. It also has a DI built it, which would be handy, as well.

No doubt about having a decent small amp for studio, if needed.

You should keep your amp in a safe place, that's for sure.

Yeah, I imagine it also has the original tubes in it, since it was never gigged, and probably not used extensively to where they'd even needed to be replaced. I know it's only had one owner, which is my girlfriend's mother's husband. He either gave it to her, or permanently loaned it to her. I don't know. We've had it around since I've been here.

Some of the original tubes were made very well. If it hasn't been pushed very hard, they could be original tubes.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they are.

I'm still playing the Epi EB-0. It appears from the Gibson / Epiphone site, both the EB-3, and the EB-0 may no longer be made. Or at least through Epiphone. Both SG style EB basses haven't been shown on the site for least a month, or longer. Image

Glenn (or anyone). Have you ever had the chance to compare the electronics (pups aside) of an Epiphone bass versus a Gibby? Are they pretty much equal or is it a noticeable difference in build. I know some offshore guitars will use cheap wiring or even smaller cheap pots for example. Prolly a krazy question so a Krazy answer will be okay. :P

I saw that. There weren't any Thunderbirds, either. Gibson still has both of those models available for their versions.

I know Epiphone used Gibson pickups for a few of their models, like one of their Thunderbird basses they had, which was supposed to copy one from the 60's. I don't know if Fender has ever done that with Squier, or not.

I'm not sure what Humbuckings are on the Epi EB-0 I have. All I can say, they put out like crazy, aren't muddy, and have a deep punchy tone.

Thanks for chimin’ in, Paul and Glenn. I think the interest in this area is often overlooked at opportune times aside from occasions where supreme or reasonable satisfaction (and budget) takes precedence.

Pretty much any axe or bass body can be routed or hot rodded to make things work, even grasping at a Rube Goldberg at times; but, knowing before a purchase what lies beneath that knob, switch, or pickup can be beneficial making things easier and often cheaper if one decides to upgrade later. It’s like a customer I had that bought a cherished week old new pickup truck, then made unreturnable unless taking substantial loss, to sadly find his choice of 5th wheel was no longer feasible for towing.

I’m led to believe that the cavity in my 2012 American Deluxe Strat with single coils is already routed for humbuckers; although, I haven’t seen that for myself. Copper lines the cavity I know. Not thinking of changing anything, but nice to know that I or another can.

Ah, the pickups, wiring, and electronics. Getting that tone and control, you can’t get from here to there, without knowing what makes it happen. There are many views on this or that. Choosing like components, and extremes like type of wire, length or, perhaps, how many turns of wire for those pickups are all considerations should we look for the holy grail. But, without going out on a limb with gear snobbery, I look at the brand of components, even the tiniest resistor for example, as being akin to picking the right brand just like in cooking or making a cocktail. Sure the recipe can get followed step for step, but few original recipes include brand names, perhaps, because it’s a trade secret or maybe availability is restrictive. In the end choice is not necessarily better or worse as we all know . . . but, different. Of course, if one has never tasted the original, there’s no comparison to be made.

Those that have tasted and enjoyed the original are always on the hunt for nothing less, and you know sumpin’? The original doesn’t always taste the best.

No problem. I don't keep up on the parts as I used too. Now I just go with what sounds good to me anymore. Old age caught up with me.

Me too, Glenn. If I can hear anything with the abuse I’ve had in ships and in studios it sounds good to me. The others listening to me play find it excruciating.

It's good you got your favorite back when you did, Glenn. 8)
