Telecasters a tuff 6 stringers. I loved Jimmy page's, before he switched out to LP's.

Yeah, I thought it was cool that Fender made that guitar as a signature model for him recently, with either the dragon design, or the one with the round mirror decals. I wonder if we'll ever see him play it or not? He was supposed to come out with a new solo album or something, going back to at least 2010, but nothing ever happened, and he was doing all of the Led Zeppelin stuff, with the remastering and those books. You know, I just realized 2010 is going to be 10 years ago, now. Time flies, especially when you're getting to be an old fart. :P

Yeah, 2010 doesn't seem like 9, going on 10 years in a couple of weeks. 2020 Coming along like a run away freight train. Time does seem to go faster as I get older. The old guys did tell me that when I was in my 20's. I didn't think time could do that to me. Image

Yeah, in some ways 2010 doesn't seem that long ago, although I really didn't start posting here on a regular basis until 2012, when I got my Rumble 350 combo. Posting here the first time does seem like ages ago, and that was two years later than 2010. Do you remember what gear you had in 2010? I was still playing on a Fender Precision Bass Lyte as the main bass, and I didn't have an amp yet, other than that old Peavey Basic 60 combo. There was also the Ibanez CT series bass, as well. The gear wasn't as extensive back then, as now. I don't even think I had any electric 6-stringers yet.

In 2010, I was playing a G&L SB-2, through Marshall MB Series amps. It doesn't seem like nine years ago now.

Yeah, pretty soon, it's going to be 10 years ago. A whole decade. I'm trying to remember what Fender had for bass amps at that time. I think it was those light grey (or silver?) colored Bassman amps, combos and heads. I don't think the 2nd generation Rumbles were out yet, maybe the following year. I do remember trying out one of those 100 watt Bassman combos, with a 10" speaker at some music shop, where we had gotten a Yamaha semi-hollow body guitar. It was a small amp, certainly in comparison to what I wound up with, but it sounded really good.

I'm at a bit of a loss of that as well. I think the 2nd generation Rumbles came out in 2012? Maybe?

Earlier than that, because I got mine in January of 2012, and they were out awhile before that. I could find out by going through the Fender archives, and seeing if they still have those catalogs filed there. They used to have them available, anyhow.

You having one would know that better than I would.

Didn't you have the 1st generation model, which was 100 watts through a 15" speaker, and have the disco lights on the bottom of it? I always thought thought those were pretty cool, and I've read they were't half bad, either.

Yes I did have one, and it had power problems. I never cared for the red flashing lights, or the rat fur either. At the time, local Fender repair stations didn't have certain access to all the circuitry to fix the Rumbles. They were sent back to Fender for repairs. So that was it on that one. I wasn't to say the least, too thrilled about the Bassman Combos being dropped for the new Rumble Combos.

Well, I couldn't find the links to the older catalogs that they used to have on the site, but I did have a PDF that I downloaded and saved for the 2nd generation Rumble amps, and is dated for 2011.

I know what you mean about the rat fur with those amps from back then. That's something I don't miss too much, either. My Carvin cabs that I had back then had that stuff on it, but any of my Peavey gear didn't, neither did my Fender BXR300C combo. I don't know why they ever used it in the first place. I guess it was some sort of fashion of the time.

Did you ever have any of those Bassman models? I thought they were pretty decent, especially that 500 watt job, but it was too expensive for me. I did almost get the 100 watt one, like I mentioned, since even that was a major upgrade from what I was using, and it would have been sufficient for the time, but I probably would have needed a bigger amp later, which I did, more or less. I'm glad that I wound up with what I did get, eventually, though. By the way, I had the Ampeg fired up tonight, jamming with my girlfriend, who was playing electronic drums, using the Rumble 350 combo. It was the first time in a long time I even have used it, since I was mainly playing through the Rumble. It did good. 8)

I did have two of the Bassman Combos. The 12" tilt back one, and the 15" upright on casters. Those were some fine combos. I think they were 150 watt 12", and 250 watt 15". They had that damn rat fur on them also. Probably where they got the idea to use the fur on the Rumbles, since players were used to seeing it on the previous Bassman series combos. BOOOOOOO!

Yeah, I remember them rather well. I think the speakers were 4 ohms, so you couldn't run another cab, unless you unplugged the speaker cable, which I thought was cool that they gave you that option, instead of being hardwired in there. You could plug that combo in an 8 x 10" if you wanted to. I remember the Bassman 400 Pro combo was 350 watts and a 2 x 10" configuration, but that one went to 500 watts at 2 ohms, and they had a head version, as well. I had some GAS over that amp, but I think it was something like $1000 for the damned thing, if I remember correctly.

Why Fender gave up on those Bassman Combos is beyond me.
