I think your Ibanez Talman is a fine bass. I'm not too crazy about Active though. A good player though. I tried one down at SA, and it was cool.

When I was in high school, they were telling us computers would do everything. No more cash, or paper etc.

Most of the Ibanez basses do have active electronics, with the exception of I think maybe the cheapest Soundgear model, the Talman that I have, and I do believe their hollow and semi hollow body basses are passive. I think I've preferred passives basses is because I didn't want to deal with extra batteries, but that's mostly laziness on my part. I think if there's a bass that I really like (and I've seen some) that's active, then that would be cool. I would just need to remember not to leave any of them plugged into an amp when not in use, since that does drain the battery. It's also a good idea (which I did find out the hard way once,) to have extra batteries with you in your gig bag. I do that anyway, since I typical use a chorus pedal.

I suppose they were sort of right about the computers in some ways.

The Active type of bass is what I didn't like about the MusicMan that I had. I do ok with the passive type. Have the 7 Band EQ on the amp anyway.

The one bass that I had owned in the past, which was active (I think it might have been the only bass I had that was, other than the Precision Bass Lyte, which I did play, but is my girlfriend's) that I really did like was a Kawaii bass, which was a copy of an Alembic model. But it also had humbuckers, and was neck thru body, which I think great contributed to it's tone. It's one of those basses that goes in the category of should never have gotten rid of.

Another one of those basses that never should have been gotten rid of. I seem to know what you mean about that, in ACES!

Yeah, I don't know if I can blame that on the foolishness of youth, because I've still done this. :P Although, at least I'm a lot smarter now not to give in as much to some dumb impulse purchase like, or at least I hope so.

With the New Year approaching, it will be 50 years that I started with an EB-0, and now I'm back to another EB-0. Image

Talk about coming around full circle. Have you had one since each time? I know you've had EB-3 basses.

On and off a few times. I hadn't had any that really sounded fine as this one does though.

Glad you like it so much, Glenn. You found just the right one. She's a keeper.

Yeah,.......... it did take a while, but this EB-0 plays so smooth, with a 12" radius fretboard, and has a Jazz size nut that has a low end that doesn't quit. :roll:Image

I know what you mean with that. I've experienced that with some Jazz and Precision Basses that I've had. Of course, I probably should have hung on to the ones that were actually good, or what were good to me. You know how that goes.

There were a lot basses I should've hung on to. But, that's all ancient history now. I like what I'm playing now, and that's the most important thing.

That's true. It's water under the bridge, and all of that. I've often concentrated more on have a decent amp than bass, which is kind of odd, considering both are equally important, and maybe the bass is more so, since that's what your actually playing. An amp is just a device that produces the notes that you have to physically create by playing a bass, or other instrument.
