I got it a little over a year ago, when we were supposed to do some acoustic stuff with this guy that sang and played acoustic guitar, but it fell through, so I never wound up even using it.

I did post a pic of it here when I got it.

Did you need to do any adjustments after putting those on?

No,..... I never do. The D'Addario gauge's are so close to the factory size strings. They fit into the nut slots perfectly. The "G" string is .50, and the factory is .45. It's better it being the just a tad snugger, then too loose. All the other three, .65, .85, and .105 are a match. Image

Very nice. I may have missed the post, or forgot seeing it. The body appears to be a nice medium size.

Okey dokey. Maybe you play double bass, maybe you play electric, maybe you play both. Maybe, you migrated from one to the other. Some of the greatest Country, Jazz, and Rock bassists of yesteryear and today historically fall into this category. Here’s one:

So what kind of strings are included with these big babies? Here’s a look.

https://doublebassblog.org/2008/09/bass ... k-out.html

With electrics? Those strings are apples to oranges; but, perhaps, brand or an equivalent characteristic could be relevant. :?:

There are finger guards and gloves to ease the pain; but, I think the toque with it’s mojo is a better accessory.

Good looking for sure. Reminds me of the 60’s mahogany Framus I had as a kid. :D

The one thing I know about double bass strings are they're expensive as hell, although I suppose they last a very long time on there, and they are a longer than electric bass ones, so I guess that's why. I've sort of messed around on a double bass a couple of times many years ago, but it was difficult to play at the time, because of the physicality of it. I might do better on it now, since I do have a lot more years of playing on me. I don't know, since that's something you'd typically see around music shops, or whatnot.

That's good to know about those. I've noticed that the La Bella nylons are the same gauges, as well. AMS does carry the La Bella nylons, for around $38 and change, but they only have long scale, and they don't have any medium or short scale nylons of any brand. If I wanted to try them on the violin bass, I'd have to shop elsewhere.

It's actually really small, the size of a regular acoustic guitar, with around a 24.75" scale, and takes specialty size strings and fits in a regular size acoustic case, apparently. I don't have one to see, but then again I'm also lacking in the case department, anyway. The one thing that's awkward about it is the fact it has such a short scale and limited access past the 12th fret, and not too many after that, anyway. I'd have to adapt certain songs that I play where I do go around that range, or play them an octave lower. Because of the fact we never had a guitar player, and use a lot of keyboard bass parts, I kind of did a lead bass thing, or double duty to where I don't need to play low on the neck. It also depends on the song, too. You know, whatever sounds good.

Oddly enough, it's probably the same size, too. This thing is the size of a regular acoustic, and has a 24.75" scale, and uses specialty strings. I guess that's probably why I haven't really played it a lot, because it's kind of awkward in that way. The reason I got that one was it was the cheapest acoustic bass they had where I shopped. It does sound pretty good, though. I did plug it in once and that sounded good, as well. I guess if I actually do need to use an acoustic instrument, at least I have one.

I'm chiming in a little late here but that is a nice looking bass, Paul. I never saw one like it before. How does a small acoustic bass sound compared to your electrics? Is it similar to how an acoustic guitar sounds compared to an electric?

That's one of the things I like about ordering the D'Addario ETB92 Nylon series strings from GC. They usually have the different scale size ETB92 Nylons in stock, at a going price. Image

I've generally tried to avoid doing business with GC, but sometimes they are the ones you have to deal with if you need something. At least you can just order them online, and don't have to deal with actually going in there, if you don't want to. Ordering online is usually the best option for me, because of my location from them, or a lot of other places.

I just realized that it's been three years since I first got my Douglas violin bass. I got it during a Black Friday sale, which is why I even got it as cheap as I did. Funny, it doesn't even seem like I've had it that long, but the past year went by pretty fast, so there's that. They don't even sell them anymore from where I got it, from when the last time I've looked. I don't even know if they will again. If I had the cash, I'd probably go for the Epiphone version, since it does have better pickups on it, from what I understand, which is the one thing I'd upgrade on mine, if I could.

Three years? Wow! It doesn't seem like you've had it that long. Overall, I can't complain about the Epiphone Viola. Yeah,......... the pups are darn good on it, when you consider the Viola is a $399. bass. The Epi basses impress me more as time goes on. The EB-0 I like, and it's $269. Personal preference though.

I know, time flies sometimes. I was thinking maybe two years at the most, but then again 2019 is almost over, and it went by pretty quick, at least for me. Imagine, we're going into the next decade already, and we still don't have jet packs and flying cars, like you probably thought we would back in the 50's or 60's. :P

The Epiphones are a pretty good value for the price, I think. I wish the Epiphone EB-0 was still $200, because I could have gotten one with the cash that I got when I sold the Squier Precision, and would have, but I'm not complaining about the Ibanez I did get with it.
