Yeah, they certainly weren't as "safety conscious" back then, and even when I was a kid, like these days. I even remember when my mom had a 1971 Ford van (which was also the year of my birth,) it only had lap belts for seat belts, and I know even that was a new thing. You didn't wear helmets when you rode a bike, either, because I don't even know if they had any, at least going into the late 90's, maybe.

Getting back with the topic, I'd certainly say that you're a Strat person. I suppose there just are certain instruments that you'll connect with more than others. Speaking of going between different instruments, I tried to adjust the neck on my violin bass again, so the action isn't as high, but without the 1st frets buzzing when I play them. I managed a little bit, but the thing is being a pain in the arse. It's not like I can't play it with a higher action, since the neck is really small in the first place, but I like the action on my Ibanez, which is low and smooth as hell, so I'm kind of spoiled with that. I suppose that if I knew someone who was good at setting up hollow body instruments, with those wooden bridges, and all of that, then that would be very helpful.

After 47 years, I'm back to a Cherry EB-0 bass. Old habits strike again. D'Addario ETB92S Nylons. ImageImage

That's kind of weird to see a bass of yours without nylons on them. :P I think Epiphone does put D'Addario strings on their basses, from what they've told me when I wrote to them one time and asked, so it's still in the same brand.

That's a nice looking bass, Glenn.

I've been playing my Heritage Cherry SG more.

I do have the D'Addario ETB92S Nylons coming in from GC.com, hopefully Monday afternoon. They were using ClearTone Strings for awhile. If they are D'Addario rounds, they do play nice though. This EB-0 is a Godsend.

Thanks Marky. Heritage Cherry SG, very nice. I still love the SG body style more than any other.

I'm wondering if they put Dean Markley Blue Steels on the Jack Casady model bass? That's what he uses on his.

Not a clue on that one either. Some strings can look so generic. It used to be with some guitars, or basses they told you what brand of strings were strung on it. Of course if it said Fender, or Gibson strings for example, you never knew who was making their brand name strings for them at that time.

That's true. Some strings you can tell, like D'Addario has those color coded ball ends, and Rotosound typically has the red silk ends, although my medium scale Rotosounds flats had light blue ones. I think GHS has red ends, too.

I'm just waiting for the ETB92S Nylons to show up. Flats would sound good on this EB-0 as well.

You're suppose to get those on Monday, right? Flats would probably be my first choice, although sometimes I've debated using rounds again.

Monday the ETB92S Nylons should show up. I used D'Addario flats on Jazzes, Hofner Flats on Hofners, and LaBella Flats on Hofners as well. Like I've said in the past, if for whatever reason Nylons were unavailable, like the Federal Govt. said they were an endangered substance, D'Addario Flats would be my first choice.

I suppose we're lucky that we can order strings on the internet these days, since a lot of times, a local shop might not even have any in stock, other than maybe long scale rounds, and you'd be lucky to even have a lot of selection with those. Although, I remember Guitar Center usually having Rotosound flats in stock, but I don't know about short or medium scale ones. The last time I've even went there for strings, I wasn't playing short scale basses. That's a bit of a drive and a $4 toll each way to go get those, so that's when I started doing the internet for that. I never thought to try any music shops in Fall River, MA, which is a drive, but no bridge tolls to deal with.

That's the thing, I live on an island, and all of the music shops are gone now. There used to be at least 5 here when I first moved here. It's kind of ironic, since this is the home of the Newport Folk and Newport Jazz Festivals, where Bob Dylan first went electric, so it's not like there's no music going on here. Bars and clubs, too. I guess it's not enough for a shop to keep running, though.

I thought you were going to mention the Newport Folk and Newport Jazz Festivals. Short scale strings are somewhat of a curse. I do my ordering through GC, since they carry the D'Addario ETB92 Nylons Series strings.

Do they have them at your local Guitar Center, or you just have to order them online?
