I actually went back to the Ibanez CT series bass today. The last time I had messed with it, it developed this severe buzz on the 1st frets of the neck for some strange reason (maybe the winter weather had some effect to it) and I had just put it away for the time being, until I could see if I could fix it. Well, I decided to take it out and see about doing that, but come to find out, the neck was no longer buzzing, and everything was fine. Go figure on that one, I don't know. At least I don't have to mess with it, at least for the time being. Hopefully, it won't do that again, maybe when the weather gets colder and drier, it's possible. Time will tell. Anyway, I was playing it all day, and it's a nice playing bass. The neck on it is actually a little thinner than the neck on my Ibanez Talman short scale bass. albeit probably the same width, but obviously a different scale size.

Outstanding Paul. That's like getting a new bass, when it works out that way. Really great! Image You know, if the neck is thinner, and it may be prone to weather effecting it, if at all possible, keep that one in a case, or protective bag.

It is in a padded gig bag, next to my Ampeg/Fender stack. I have a theory of why that happened, and it also happened to my other basses. In my office, there's this built in table off the side, in front of a window, which I have the Fender amp sitting under, and I have this D'Addario guitar holder clamped to it to hold a bass in place. I had both Ibanez basses (which developed that issue) resting in that thing at different times, when it was cold and dry out, with it being drafty there, especially from the window, and under the floor (there's some sort of gap there that drops down to the basement level somewhere,) and I think them being in that holder somehow must have caused the necks to shift to where they buzz at the first frets. It might sound strange, but that's only happened with any instrument that I had there, during that type of weather, and that hasn't happened to other ones elsewhere in the house. I'm just glad I don't have to mess with that bass, but we'll see what happens when the weather gets cold again.

The first fret on the neck is usually the most apt to have an issue, with it being the thinest point of the neck.

Yeah, that seems to be the case, at least with those basses.

It's just the way it is with most actually.

Well, I suppose the one advantage I had with that when I was in Florida, is I didn't have to worry about it, since it never gets that cold or dry, and you're in a climate controlled environment for the most part, unless you want to sweat your arse off. :P I remember never having to deal with filing down fret ends, or any of that. Then again, I typically had maple fretboards with most of my basses, so that doesn't seem to be an issue with those, anyway.

True about having my bass, and amp in an air conditioned environment. And, Maple is a good fretboard configuration. I've somewhat had decent basses with Maple fretboards, and liked them.

That's why if I ever get another bass, I think I'd prefer it to be with a maple fretboard. It seems less problematic with the weather changes, plus I do like the way it looks and sounds.

That sounds like a good plan, going for a Maple. I don't regret any Maple boards I've had.

Yeah, that's if I ever do. I do have a Peavey Zodiac bass with a maple board, which is in semi good playing shape. It could use some work, but it's been problematic like that for years.

It may not be too bad, if the cost to get it right doesn't go too high. Does it require a lot to spruce it up?

Not too bad. I think there's some ground hum issue going on, or the last time I ever plugged it in, there was. The neck seems to be OK on it, as far as I can tell.

That doesn't sound too bad.

Yeah, it would be nice to get that thing in playing shape. Maybe I might mess with it today, if I think about it.
