That must be a real beauty. Ebony fretboard, and all.

The ebony fingerboard has an amazing feel to it. I have 8's on it now but they are a bit light for my taste and bends feel effortless on the ebony fingerboard anyway so I'll go back to 9's when I restring it. I like 9, 11, 16, 26, 36, 46 on the 24 3/4" scale.

When I want that humbucker tone, I usually play my SG. It has Classic 57/57+ pickups and those are my favorites. The SG isn't one of the best looking guitars, IMO, but I like how it feels compared to my LP. Maybe because it feels more like a Strat, except for the minor neck dive. 8)

I agree with you about the design of the SG body. I liked the SG body since I had a used Pelham Blue SG Jr. in 1968. My last electric 6 stringer, before I went to playing the Bass. 6 Stringers, and I didn't play well together. I've been playing long scale basses for too long I guess. A 24 3/4" scale looks fairly small to me. A good SG has that raw, rough, 60's hard rock sound to it. Power chords from them are to the MAX!

That's for sure. Add some overdrive, reverb and a lot of volume and they have a distinctive, amazing sound. I play my Strat way, way more often but, when I just have to have that dirty, overdriven tone, I pick up my SG. 8)

I might be going back to a Precision Bass, if the stars are aligned with the planets, and the universe is in balance, or just plain damned good luck. :P

You do seem to like, and want to get back to a Precision. Here's hoping you can acquire another one. Image

Blame it on Pink Floyd's "Live At Pompeii." :P Actually, it's something that I've often thought about, time and time again, and I was also listening back to something I played the P Bass on , and I liked the way it sat in the mix, and have been regretting getting rid of.

Yeah,...... I know about seeing Pink Floyd, and loving their live performances. I did see that movie at a midnight showing. Rogers Precision was fantastic in their sound. I always appreciated his bass tones in "Comfortably Numb."

My favorite is "Echoes Part 1" from the "Pompeii" show. There's that kind of funky bass breakdown during the song, where they zoom in on him with his P Bass, and if that's not a great advertisement for one, I don't know what is.

It's been a long time since I saw the movie, but I do know Echoes. Pink Floyd did the Meddle album live, at the time in the new sound PA system, "Quad".

How did that work out? I think Led Zeppelin were experimenting with that system as well, weren't they?

I have the movie on DVD, but it's been awhile since I've watched it. Actually, it's been a long time since I've even extensively listened to Pink Floyd, other than a random video here and there.

Thanks, FSB! I've been blessed with 5 really nice guitars, IMO, and I'm happy with them.

Your Strat is beautiful and makes me want to put on a white PG. :) The shape and feel of a Strat are just right, IMO.
Appreciate that, Marky. It doesn’t compare with some, but like my drums they are mine. I chose this Strat because I couldn’t get a Daphne Blue at the time. I’m a fan of Buddy Holly, and this one reminded me of a ‘59 Strat with a modern touch that I like. The hardware is the antiqued white and the PG is mint green which adds to the woody tree look. What caught my eye was the booked 2 piece was so well done you have to do a very close look at it to see a seam. It is that good. It sold me that some care and attention was paid to the guitar by Fender. What would I change? I’d like the old ashtray for that classic look; but, what I’d really like is a bird’s eye maple neck.

The pickups? I understand your Player has nice ones. I like the N3s (Alnico 2, Alnico 3, and Alnico 5) for recordings. I know they wimp out at times, but I A/B’d some surf songs versus the pups and I managed to come very close to the originals which surprised me. Besides, on their own they do just fine, and what’s great is they blend well when switching without a fight for loudness as many do. So it’s a keeper and there's always room for options. I like the fact that the body is routed for humbuckers, but I’ll leave that for a different axe. I think this 2012 got it right for the price, and it stays in tune just lovely. Besides, Mrs. FSB gifted it to me. :D
As for white pickguards the original ‘62 mother of pearl pickguard blew me away. There’s some very close clones out there, and some pricey originals kicking around; but, basic white can be a very nice statement too as sometimes less is more, plus it depends on the guitar and the mojo.
Best

I wouldn't be surprised if LZ was trying Quad at that time also. Quad didn't do well in the larger arenas / halls. PF did get ok separation from it, but it wasn't in a larger venue like the Houston Astro Dome, when I saw them using Quad.

I seem to remember something about that when I was a kid, as well. Weren't there home stereo systems that tried to have that set up?

Quad started out as home stereo systems. They were more expensive, and unless you really had a room with enough area to it, the true quad never got its full sound, and separation as intended. I don't remember quad being around for too long. The PF Meddle concert with the Quad PA was April of 1972.

I suppose in a way, that was the precursor to surround sound. There used to be a web site around that actually sold NOS stereo components and things like that from like the 70's and all of that. I guess it was stuff that was never sold, probably from Sears, or Montgomery Wards, or whatever, still in their boxes. Probably found in some warehouse somewhere, who knows? I thought those were pretty cool back in the day. My older brothers and sisters had a lot of that stuff, since they were of that age, and going into their 20's back in the 70's.

My folks had a quad system all in one with an 8 track. I think it was a Sanyo.

I also think I'm the young guy on here.
