I've seen those LaBella strings for Hofner basses on the AMS site, but it's regular flats, not nylons. I'll bet they'd work really well for my violin bass, even though it's just a cheap copy. Right now, I have some medium scale Rotosound flats on there.

The Hofner came with the Hofner brand Flats from the factory. I'm liking the La Bella 760NHBB Nylons in place of the Flats. It's a preference between the two. Hollow bodies are a breed all of their own, that's for sure. Your Violin, I'll bet would sound fine with either type of string. The one thing that may be a win, or no win situation on any bass, the pups.

Yeah, that's the one weakness that I've noticed with my violin bass is the pickups. I didn't even realize it until I got the Ibanez Talman short scale bass, and plugged both into the Ampeg PF-800 and Fender 4 x 10" rig. The Ibanez was much louder and clearer sounding with the EQ set flat. I probably could have gotten away with the Orange head, with the Ibanez, but not really the 18" speaker I had, because I did try to use it with other basses, and it still was problematic. I'm still glad I got the Ampeg, though. I think it sounds way better, and has more options for me.

Your PF-800 should do like the Markbass for bringing out the lower mids, that are somewhat of a default control agent for amp settings anymore. It does seem to have an influence I've noticed for tone settings.

Yeah, it does have a mid-tone control, with 5 different selections.

There it is. Some amps don't appear to have enough volume, and or power, until the Mid controls get setup.

Because 90% of human hearing is in the midrange. That is why if you crank the bass and treble on an amp you have to crank it to hear it.

I would think you should have no problems with the PF-800, and any basses, or cabs you run through it, or to it.

Yeah, it's a really decent amp.

I'd say so. I think the PF Series is darn good. Compact, and they work. And now backed by Yamaha.

Yeah, I've never had any bad experiences with any Yamaha stuff. I used to have this Yamaha 335 copy semi hollow body guitar that I traded in for a Kramer acoustic bass back in the day. I probably should have kept it, since it was a really nice instrument, but I wasn't much on guitar, and I liked the idea of the acoustic bass at the time. Oddly enough, I got the Yamaha by trading my '77 Jazz Bass for it.

I’m not promoting this book as I haven’t read it; but, FYI Geddy Lee is here in town for his book signing.

Geddy Lee’s Big Beautiful Book Of Bass. looks promising with a reported over 200 bass guitars, and it includes many interviews and comments with and by some great talent,

Just thought fans may like to know if they hadn’t heard yet. :D

In the Jazz Bass section I posted a long well researched video on Geddy Lees Gear that talks quite extensively about all of his basses but his Jazz Basses in particular.

So now you're pretty much back with a hollow body, with the Violin of yours.
